Sucks for us fans, but it would be really stupid to have him out there risking further injuries playing on a bad ankle.

Welp, there is Cliff's reason (excuse) to say he is behind everyone else and not use him until the second half of the season. :(

Hey everyone, I'm new to the board. I have been reading on this board for over two years and I have been thinking of actually joining. I think this is the happiest I've been in a long time, I have been a hornets fan ever since I was a kid and I'm happy to be one still. For once I think we are going in the right direction. It's very unfortunate to hear about Monk but hopefully he heals up and comes back better than ever ready to contribute from day one.

I guess the one good thing is maybe this will put some fire under Bacon and make him sizzle in summer league.
Q. Describe your personality on the court?

lol, it's not like he's going to miss training camp. That's much, much, much more important than summer league. The summer league is mostly for players trying to leave an impression to make an NBA roster. Lottery picks like Monk playing in them are for the fans more than anything.

I haven't been this hyped about a draft pick of ours in the last 10 years and that includes MKG, Biyombo, and Vonleh, all of whom I was seriously hyped about.

You weren't hyped when Kemba was drafted?

I was more excited about those three, as I was still happy with DJ at the time and wasn't sure Kemba could be a PG ... those were simpler times. Kemba turned all that around in his second year lol

I will admit not being hyped about any of those picks, Monk is the first time I've been excited about a draft pick in years.

This is the first time I literally jumped up and clapped in excitement when they announced our pick since Kemba. I think Monk is a serious prospect for us and you need to be able to score. You hear a lot about his shooting and lack of size/defense but what about how quick he is, his moves to get open and his ability to score in transition and on contested shots? I think there's good reason to be excited about Monk.

I was at the '11 Draft Party and was just short of getting on my knees to pray Kemba was the pick. I did have praying hands from a seated position. For many years I thought I must only be granted one draft pick per lifetime before we got Monk.

Found a really cool vid on him coming out of high school. 5-star recruit, #1 combo guard and a 37" vert coming out. You can tell even in HS this kid has an alpha personality and is going to be something. Don't want to get hopes up too much.... but man... it's hard.

Calipari saying the only other guy he's coached who could do what Monk can athletically is Derrick Rose is mind blowing.

Like what did you just say dude?

Thanks, I'm not necessarily a UK fan. I'm actually a Tar Heel fan which is kind of funny, when Monk put up 47 on us I couldn't help thinking how great he would be on the Hornets and how we would never get a chance to draft a player of his caliber. I do enjoy watching Kentucky reload every year and supply lottery teams. The name just kind of came to me after one of his interviews. We are incredibly lucky we got him dropped in our laps.

I'm excited to have Monk on the team. I don't have star projections for him but what he will be able to provide (shooting, highlight dunks) along with a chance of upside is exciting. At the very least he will be heat check shooter that can win us some quarters with the 2nd unit. I don't see him starting at any point this year, but I do wonder if/how soon Clifford will let him finish games. Will he play the Marco role?

For me he's the most exciting pick since Bismack. We're lucky he fell.

Total bummer about him being out for summer league though. Definitely puts a damper on the excitement.
