So what would you give up for LMA

Post#1 » by DET_Athletics » Wed Jun 28, 2017 3:16 am

In this moment we need to make a trade. I idea of bringing in LMA is very appealing. I wouldn't be willing to give up any of our young but a package of Morris, leuer and a future first is something I think that works for both sides.

Reggie/ish
KCP/Kennard
Harris/Johnson
LMA/Ellenson
Dre/Boban

That line up goes far in the East.

If we can get Green I'd trade away Johnson, Jackson, Harris, and a future first for LMA and Green. Definitely!

I know they wanted Johnson before.

LMA has terrible value right now and he's getting paid to be fat and lazy.

I really wouldn't give up much for him

I just don't understand what kind of man wants out of San Antonio? Who doesn't want to play with Kawhi? Who doesn't want to be coached by Popovich? Who went to the Spurs voluntarily as a free agent?

I just don't get it.

Prime Aldridge could have been great for Drummond, and if his value is low...but again, how on Earth could you be a malcontent on the Spurs?

And he would be likely to opt out after one season. Easy pass on giving up any kind of value for him. Aldridge doesn't take the Pistons anywhere even if they could just add him for nothing. They're not contending with Cleveland, Boston, or Washington with the team relying significantly on either Jackson or Drummond, let alone both of them. Lamarcus doesn't change that.

Yeah, there are a lot of flags around LMA right now. He was supposedly a personality problem in Portland, and now the Spurs seem willing to give up on the guy that was basically handed Tim Duncan's role on the team after a very short stint. There's also like zero buzz about interest in taking him, which says a lot given the demand during his last FA period. His poor performance in the Playoffs is probably a big part of that.

If you can get him for cheap and offload some baggage in the process, it's worth a shot, but if you're giving up assets, understand that there's a decent chance he'll never pay off and may actually be toxic to team chemistry.

Dude got too comfortable being a Spur and let it effect his mental and physical state.

Yes they play a "team" game but you need big dogs to win big - he stopped (never was?) a true big dog.

I believe they're looking to clear cap space so a deal with us isn't gonna help them.

They'd need a 3 team deal where tbey get the likes of SJ & other cheap dudes while shifting LMA in order to sign a dude like Millsap or CP3

I've never been a huge fan of the guy but outside of Harris, Kennard and future picks we don't have any value to trade, so any deal not involving the aforementioned I say why not, worst case is he leaves after one year and we get cap relief.

The Spurs aren't giving up LMA without getting Drummond in return.

San Antonio is now a place free agents take seriously, Pop would likely prefer to let LMA opt out next summer than take on Drummonds deal.

I'd give up Reggie Jackson and Jon Leuer for LMA. That saves us about $5 million in payroll, maybe we swing a trade for Ricky Rubio in that scenario. They probably aren't asking for a lot.

Other than that, I wouldn't give up much for him.

Here's a deal what works and San Antonio probably says yes to.

Detroit trades:
Tobias Harris $16,000,000 2 Years Remaining (24 Years Old)
Marcus Morris $5,000,000 2 Years Remaining (27 Years Old)
Stanley Johnson $3,100,000 2 Years Remaining (21 Years Old)

San Antonio trades:
LaMarcus Alderidge $21,400,000 2 Years Remaining (31 Years Old)
Danny Green $10,000,000 2 Years Remaining (30 Years Old)
Future 1st Round Draft Pick

San Antonio gets two guys are cheap deals in Morris and Johnson, while Harris provides almost as much scoring as Alderidge does. This also creates enough cap space for them to potentially go after a big name FA this summer clearing about $7 million off their books.

What would our tax situation be then?

Dre - Bobo
LMA - Jon - Henry
Green
KCP - Kennard
RJ - Ish

Guessing we'd look to dump Bobo for a wing?

Tax situation depends largely on the deal that KCP gets offered. Originally I thought KCP was going to get a huge deal from another team but now I'm not so sure as the cap was a few million less than expected and a few teams are looking to give up players/assets to clear cap space so some of the teams most likely to offer KCP MAX money are also the teams most likely to take a cap clearing trade to get assets... Teams like Philly or NJ.

Especially if guys like Iggy from Golden State cash in on a big pay day somewhere rather than stay in GS on the cheap for more titles. If Lowry leaves Toronto for a big pay day somewhere else, if CP3, Blake, and Reddick leave the Clippers, etc.

I'd give up dick. Dick-squared.

Doesn't LMA have a heart condition as well? And if you can't put yuor ego aside and do what Pop with all his rings and coaching hall of famers wants than I don't think you're going to be coachable with Stan Van.

Not much, I think his value is a lot lower around the league after this past year.
