Clippers got robbed. They could have gotten more draft picks. Sam dekker and a 2018 pick are useless, beverly is the only good player the got in return.

Ok so clippers are rebuilding then. Understandable but why not try to get some more picks at least? But cant blame doc 100% for this trade because paul told him that he will go to houston so they got something back at least

Nobody is talking about the Paul Millsap S&T though to Houston. They pull that move, and I think they are firmly in the 2nd spot in the West and NBA.

Supposedly sticking point is capella

I'd move Capella (as much as I love him) for PG-13 (in a sign and trade). Morey is so damn good at getting solid players late in low key moves (late firsts, 2nds, FA), I'm not worried the rockets will lack depth any time soon.

I'm guessing if they went for PG, it'd be something like Gordon, Ariza, Onefu + future 1st for PG. They would still have the cap space to sign someone for the full MLE. Depending on who they acquire after PG13, they could really challenge GS in a 6-7 game series.

Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon

Combined, this is what the Rockets traded to get CP3 and James Harden:

Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, Sam Dekker, Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, picks (that became Steven Adams, Alex Abrines and Mitch McGary), and a protected 2018 1st round pick

Clips, unwilling to give CP3 nearly $45M at age 37 in the last year of a near $200M max deal, cut losses & agreed to (pending) deal w/Rox.

Jerry West has his hands all over this IMO. I personally don't necessarily disagree.

What are you talking about?

This was a sympathy trade.

If the Clippers asked for more then CP3 would have just signed with the Rockets.

Everyone is saying how this backcourt will work will need to wait to see. We have two ball player with a very high bball IQ.

I can see both guys averaging 10 assist a game, definitely see CP3 shooting a lot more now.

Houston is going to be fun to watch

This will only work if Paul embraces the scoring portion of his game. It has been under utilized for his entire career.

R.I.P Lob City. :P

Seriously, though. CP3 was the engine that drove the Clippers. Without him, you just have a collection of talented players, but rudderless direction. With this move, I think Jerry West is planning on blowing the whole team up, in an attempt to acquire a combination of young talent, and future picks. It doesn't make sense to shuttle CP3, just to keep Blake and Deandre, and muck around in mediocrity.

Wisdom dictates, teams should either be really good, or really bad. If West is unable to make anymore substantial moves this off season, then he'll try again, next off season.

Eh, yes and no. It is EASIER to trade with one team than having to find a team to take a bunch of players off your hands, although yes, Rockets didn't have to help the Clippers really. Also considering the scenario of CP3 walking for nothing, Dekker+Beverley+a 1st rounder for next year is actually a really solid haul. Dekker is a talented prospect who hasn't gotten many chances in Houston. No telling if he will be good or not but at least it's a 22 year old who may find a role.
