Stop derailing the thread with this garbage. If you aren't going to contribute anything of value, don't bother posting at all.

Sorry, nick. I posted the video in the wrong thread, so I moved it to the Chris Paul Traded thread accompanied by your quote just so that the conversation doesn't get sidetracked.

Clippers roster updated as of today

starters
Patrick Beverly / Austin Rivers ( of course) / Sam Dekker / Montrezl Harrell / DJ

reserve
Juwan Evans / Lou Williams / Jamal Crawford / Wesley Johnson / Sindarious Thornwell / Brice Johnson / Diamond Stone

damn Lou and Jamal combo is gonna kill the offensive flow, lol. hope both gets traded out and give Juwan/Sindie/Brice to grow together in the second unit, similar to how Q Rich and D Miles used to entertain us with the second unit 2 decades ago.
ehhhhh f it.

Why I'm High on Rubio

Post#295 » by Ranma » Thu Jun 29, 2017 6:20 am

People forget that Jerry West tried to trade up in the 1998 NBA Draft in order for the Lakers to select Jason "White Chocolate" Williams. The Kings caught wind of this and sniped them by nabbing him with the 7th overall pick. Williams is obviously not as good as Earvin Johnson, but he was more of a "Showtime" passer than Magic. Incidentally, Williams was also in the Clippers' training camp in 2008 but retired before he could officially play for the team.

With the Logo now advising the Clippers' front office, I'd like to think and hope that we'll make a trade for Ricky Rubio to unite with fellow 2009 top draft pick Blake Griffin for a revisit back to Lob City. Rubio plays at a faster pace that Griffin prefers. While he's not as good of a 3-point shooter as White Choclate, he's clearly the better defender. Both obviously have a flair for the spectacular in getting teammates involved.

I really hope that we find a way to get rid of Jamal this off-season. Since we have some young players now maybe we can attach one of them. I'm not sure which team would be interested but it's worth a shot.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Re: Needle in the Hayward Stack

Would love to see this happen. Assuming Blake re-signs, could Clips open enough space this year to entice Hayward to sign for one year similar to what KD did? I'm not a cap person but I'd guess it starts with Rivers' and Crawford's contracts.

Before I engage in my thoughts of whimsy on Gordon Hayward, I have to acknowledge that it's the longest of shots (almost Wammy-like :clown:) since we don't have the cap space nor the assets to go after him unless we can spin DJ into gold and leverage BG into a S&T deal in the aftermath of a lowered projected salary cap. Plus, Chris Paul and Hayward weren't exactly fond of each other during their last meeting when they got entangled and exchanged some emotional choice words with each other, but couldn't the same be said of CP and his teammates. On top of all that, we wouldn't be able to offer an immediately competitive situation compared to Boston given what we'd have to do in order to get him.

Whatever the case may be, today's Baketball Analogy podcast [start at 59:00 timestamp] got me to thinking more on my fancy for Hayward even if it didn't exactly help my cause. First, there was some doubt expressed on whether the Clippers would offer Chris Paul 5 full years on a contract extension with the comment that it was far from a sure thing even though he was likelier to get a longer deal than Blake Griffin. Second, given Gordon Hayward's age, he may actually be more inclined to accept a 4- or even 3-year deal, which would allow him to be a free agent as a 10-year veteran who could get another max contract in his prime.

Jerry West has gone on record as wanting to pair Stephen Curry with a tall shooting guard capable of defending as well as shoot the lights out as a perfect complement for the Warriors' backcourt. The same principle would apply for Gordon Hayward filling the role of Klay Thompson to Chris Paul's Steph Curry.

Back in the day, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Logo come up with a shocking blockbuster trade/signing out of nowhere. Unfortunately, he not as involved now and significantly older as a newcomer to an organization. Still, would it be too much to hope for some more Logo magic to come from a guy who says that he still has the energy and passion to make a difference? Again, it's a pipedream but one that allows for hope with West on our side.

Even Worse Than I Initially Thought

No. As cited below, the Clippers would have had $8.4 million to offer Hayward given the cap holds to Griffin and Jordan. However, that was in a scenario where Paul left for nothing. The Clipper brought in multiple players and a draft pick in return for the opt-in-and-trade of Paul. We'd have to offer a trade package with presumably some of the assets acquired from Houston and likely one of our own future first-round picks but Utah already has Gobert, so there's no need for DJ, who is the featured piece in my trade proposal.

With Paul's departure, there's less of an urgency to acquire Hayward for me and, upon further thought, there's even less of a likelihood for a deal to happen unless a third team is involved. Also, while Hayward may be willing to commit to less years, he's not signing for only a single season as he needs to accrue at least 3 more years to be a 10-year veteran for an opportunity to get a supermax offer, I believe.

If Griffin returns and Paul leaves

A similar situation would occur should Griffin return and Paul leave, as LA would be left with just $5.5 million in salary cap space. Again, the Clippers would likely operate as an over-the-cap team and would be able to offer an outside free agent a starting salary of $8.4 million.

We should resign Blake, and offer Austin Rivers, Louis Williams, Sam Dekker, Brice Johnson and the 2018 HOU 1st round pick to Indiana for Paul George. Will they take it? Idk. but worth the try.
We could then engage with Knicks again for Carmelo trade. Jamal, Wes Johnson, Kyle Wiltjer would make the salaries work. They seem to be planing to buyout Carmelo anyway. It would be cheaper for them to buy-out Jamal and Wes + they'll get a trade exception.

We'll field
Beverly, George, Carmelo, Blake, DJ
We'll need to sign like 5 players to vet minimums though.
