send him to Washington for Ian Mahinmi, Oubre, and a future 1st.

everyone knows horny aint lasting more than another year. he knows it. the people in msg know it. everyone. you're going to add all the salary for a pick at the end of the 1st round ? nah. just let him play the year out and walk.

I think they could offer some extra cap space this year by way of a TPE. You know. So we can sign Jeff Teague.

we're starting early huh

Worst kind of player to max out, so Knicks did it. The guy who you have to tailor 4 -5 other pieces to make him worthwhile and you still really aren't going anywhere.

That's the NBA. There are the players who are versatile and excellent and raise everyone's play around them and lead, and they should get large $$$$. Then, because of over expansion, the rest of the teams are scrambling to pay "Pseudo Superstars" to look like they are competing and put asses in seats. Melo is exhibit A of that sort of player.

Knicks are cleaning house. Got rid of bum Phil, now they need to back in and remove his trash (Melo)

here's what you need if you're the knicks. contracts that end after this year. a 1st round pick and/or a young player. anything less and no deal.

im actually not as worried about contracts that end after this year. Because I stll think we are at least 2 years away from seriously competing which means we are at least 2 years away from seriously attracting a worthwhile FA.

So that means I would be willing to take back a longer contract if it meant we got multiple assets like 1st round picks or some combination of picks and young players.

i think a trade is still best for both parties. if we can find one melo is good with, we should. but we shouldn't feel compelled like he's burning a hole in our pocket at this point.

so long as horny has the autonomy to manage the players how he wants, it shouldn;t be a problem.

So Houston still has 4 non guaranteed contracts left. With the 175% rule in the new cba, they could match an additional 6-7mil in salary. The math is tight but those contracts plus Eric Gordon would be just enough to take on Camelos deal.
For the Knicks I think swapping Melo for Gordon would be a win, as they could look to move Gordon for assets or a better fit (Rubio? )

so what. you already have the dead weight of noah. you don't just destroy your financial flexibility without some serious pay off. a pick who likely turn out to be a tim hardawy jr or jerian grant aint really worth it.

I'm thinking differential we simply should not be looking at the FA market this year or next. Because we will just add stupid $$$ like Jeff Teague if thats the case. Use the space to take on a bad deal and get assets for it like Brooklyn did with taking on mosgov.

the offseason was upon us after the finals. i know what you mean tho. free agency.

surely worth talking about.

i don't know if horny's fate is set. depends on the new prez. there aren't exactly better options floating around and horny has shown what he can do unbridled with a pack of young wolves. so long as the new prez doesn't come in with a new desired coach, horny should have a prime opportunity right now.

Houston, Washington, Cleveland, Toronto, Boston, LA Lakers, Miami and San Antonio are probably the best remaining options for Melo. I don't see him approving any other team. Players from those teams are going to have to convince Melo to waive his NTC to go play there. I'm sure at least one of those teams will be able to...

We have to remain patient. Paul George and Hayward will find their place and then Melo will move to the head of the pack as the next best "upgrade". For example, if San Antonio can turn LMA + Parker into Melo + George Hill and keep most of their bench, I think they're a better team for it.

If Houston has 4 non-guaranteed contracts and are only $6-$7 mil short, then it's more and more likely Carmelo will go there.
As a Knicks fan, give me all non-guaranteed contracts and a 1st round pick 2020+ and I'm good. Would make our cap situation great; Especially in 2 years when Noah is off the books.
