I'm not too bummed about this. Let's face it, the chance of Charlotte picking up a backup PG via the 2nd round was slim to none, this FO is convinced that a better player can be culled from the scrap heap of NBA free agency, no matter how many Ramon Sessions and Brian Roberts we go through.

I'm not going to move Bacon into the Hendo and Jeff Taylor world of dumb iso-wings just yet either. Bacon likes his tough shots but he's also been on FSU squads where he was one of the only ones capable of getting off a decent shot. Maybe he can transition into an efficient role player, I'm not sure. At least it reduces the likelihood of calling up Damien Wilkins' corpse from the G-League.

I actually would have loved us to keep Frank Jackson. He was starting to show signs at the end of the dook season. Backup PG has always been a problem for us and Frank imo was worth a shot unless we go the same old Roberts Sessions route.

Bacon has 4/10 potential imo

I am coming around to him. When we first drafted him I was about a 3/10 in my likeable stage but now I am about a 5/10 in favor of him. So 50 50.

What I like about him is his size, toughness, jumpshot and I guess scoring ability.

Don't like is lack of obvious potential, a bit slow.

He also appears to force shots which can be a good thing or bad..

I think we will come around to liking him and actually want him to stay around but I still have that role player thought that comes to mind.

I do however think he has at least the potential to be slightly better than MKG and might even take his spot in the starting lineup in the near future depending on what happens with Batum.

I definitely dont see this guy supplanting Graham this season but lets give him a shot before we completely write this pick off.

I guess they figure with mkg injury history and our loaded pf/c depth the only other option was a backup in case mkg/lamb injury trouble continues.

Briante + cat + kemba and a MLE vet pg makes developmental pg less important. Though i loved frank jackson

I am starting to like Bacons game. He seems like he needs to just get time to play and develop confidence. I can see him being in the league a bit.

He can certainly get a shot off. Nice fade away with high release and crafty around the basket. I think some work in the G-League will be good for him but he could be a nice addition.

Three years means this is for more than the minimum, which indicates another piece of MLE was used.

Also means it's not a two-way.

Max he can get in year 1 that would keep us under the tax and allow for another minimum signing would be $1,346,437.

More importantly it also means that Bacon will be a RFA at the end of 3 years. On a 2 year deal he would have been an UFA if I'm not mistaken.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I'll be honest. When we drafted Bacon I was pissed. I wanted to keep Frank Jackson. I didn't think Bacon was that great in college. I was wrong. He may be the steal of the draft. Needs to improve his D and 3, but what rookies don't have to improve in those areas. He has a strength that a lot of guys don't have, a really good mid range game. Better yet, he plays to his strengths. Glad we locked him up.

He'd still be restricted, but we wouldn't have Full Bird Rights, which could have brought the Arenas provision into play.

This way they have more control should he play out all 3 years.
