It's worth mentioning that Ben Simmons dunked with his left.

Why does that matter? I think he dunked with his left before. I know heshoots with right hand 95% of time within 5 feet though.

Could be wrong but wasnt he usually finish with his right?

Did the numbers. In highschool highlights he dunked 22 times with his right, 17 times with both hands and 4 times with his left.
The left hand dunks were all when he was in the open court on his own. The right hand dunks are usually when he is trying to get to the rim quick. Also fond of the windmill dunk when he is in the open court too

I also remember in college and SL he usuallt finish with his right, even when he's at left side of the ring.

What happened?
Nothing happened. Sometimes I joke that he is afraid to shoot. I'm not serious. But on this video I don't see the big deal in him dunking. So what lol. He didn't do anything special. He's 6'10. If there was a video of Okafor dunking no one would care lol. And I am still very high on Simmons and think he will win ROY. I still think he's a better prospect than Embiid and will show everyone this season why he is the best prospect in years. Simmons will put on a show this season. Can't wait.

It seems the hype on Simmons has been lowered, lately. Whether he will be injury prone or the Fultz hype is so great, people are underestimating his impact. Anyway, Simmons and the Sixers have an opportunity to hit the floor running, Fultz will relieve so much pressure on Simmons to be the main playmaker that now he can let the game come to him more easily. Simmons can be more of a power forward with Fultz than without. Simmons' rebounding should be exceptional and give them extra opportunities to score. Not flashy, but very much needed. Also, Simmons put backs and dunks should be very entertaining, to say the least.

His hype hasn't been lowered for me. I fully expect Simmons to make an Embiidian type impact for the offense. Simmons will never be the defensive player Embiid is but I think Simmons can do for the offense what Embiid did for the defense. I can't wait to see Simmons even if he can't shoot yet and shoots with the wrong hand. The guy I think may not make much of an impact this year is Fultz. I do think Simmons will give him good looks and will help him ease into the NBA easier. Simmons and Fultz compliment each other well.

Re: Welcome Simmons
I was listening to 97.5 today while working outside and it Mike Missinelli was really making himself sound stupid talking about Simmons.
And the worst part is, people were calling in and agreeing with him!
He wants to run a lineup of
PG - Simmons
SG - Fultz
SF - Gordon Hayward
PF - Saric
C - Embiid
And have JJ Redick come off the bench. Someone called in and asked him how he felt about TLC getting major minutes and both Mike and the Co-host said that TLC should just be happy he isn't in the D-League this year.
I don't get it like is that the mainstream opinion of where we're at right now?
Do people really think Simmons is going to defend point guards the entire game?
you are what you primarily defend IMO, it's really not that complicated. Especially with the amount of switching in the modern game due to increased ball movement
look at James Harden, he was considered by some to be a PG this year but still considered a SG by others. All that matters is who was on the court with him
I almost forgot, a caller said we should trade for Mirotic on Chicago and Mike seemed unable to grasp the concept that the Bulls would even think about trading Mirotic and considers him a "perfect backup PF" for us but feels like "the Bulls would be reluctant to let him go and would ask for a lot in a trade"
Never mind the fact that they literally just drafted basically the same player only better at the 1 thing they do well in Lauri Markkanen and are clearly going into a rebuild
God I hate that guy

Actually I do think Hayward would be a good fit. On D, it's..
Fultz
Hayward
RoCo
Simmons
Embiid

For me I would prefer:
PG - Simmons
SG - Fultz
SF - Roco
PF - Saric
C - Embiid
Roco is a better defender against guards.
Having said that depending on how he develops I think the ideal starting 5 would be Bolden at the 4 (Caveat being we don't know yet how good he will be):
PG - Simmons
SG - Fultz
SF - Roco
PF - Bolden
C - Embiid
Bolden has the size and the long wingspan and agility to defend anywhere from 1 through 5.. and he has a nice outside shot. Super athletic as well... and it would allow us to have Saric lead the 2nd team off the bench.
I personally don't see any reason for us to start going out and spending a fortune on Gordon Haywards yet... when we don't quite know what we have as a team yet.

Re: Welcome Simmons
Since I spent so much time watching tape of Fultz and other draft prospects from May until the draft, and pretty much all year long tbh, I decided to go back and rewatch some old Simmons LSU tape and man it's insane how good he is.
I think sometimes Simmons I wouldn't say is forgotten about, but he's kinda sandwiched in between Embiid who is the king of the Sixers and social media, and Fultz who is the new guy in town with all the hype. Also Dario's late season surge casts an even larger shadow. But Simmons is still amazing and has a chance to be one of the very best players in this league even if he only develops a mid ranged jumper. I don't even think he needs a 3 pointer tbh, although it would be nice.
He has some of the best basketball instincts I've ever seen, can get to the rim at will, handles like a guard, is athletic. So excited to see him play. Embiid will always be our most talented and dominant player when he's healthy, but Simmons may be the guy who glues the whole thing together.

He'll make us lethal on transition like how Draymond, KD and LeBron do it.
On halfcourt, he's best as a rollman or a ball handler off 1-3PnR guy that can take advantage on opposing PGs if they switch.
I still think the team and his effectivity is at its best if he space the floor. Sounds more like an excuse to say we're fine even if he can't shoot.

I was listening to TJ McConnell's and Covingtons interview on 97.5 and on top of what Richaun Holmes said about Simmons recently.. they had some good things to say about Simmons as well. I think you're right that in some way he has been forgotten a little bit about.
Q: "Give us a little window because we don't get the access that you do in the off season and when you are working with these guys. I think sometimes we forget, or take for granted or perhaps we are focussed on so many other things like Markelle Fultz the new guy coming in, what's it going to be like to see Ben Simmons on the floor?"
Covington: "His passing ability, his shots have got a lot better, he has been working alot with shooting coach over the past few months that he has been missing. He is just putting in time and effort, he has got a lot stronger and he has grown as well. Its just a matter of seeing the transition of everything he has been doing in the offseason now to once the season starts because from what I have seen tremendous, tremendous talent from top to bottom and he is going to be very hard to stop. Teams won't know how to guard him, so its going to be a good thing for us to have the height of someone that can play point guard who has the court vision is going to be that much better.
McConnell: "Well you see glimpses of Ben, like he is extraordinary in the open floor and some of the plays that he does you just, I just kind of sit back and I'm like 'did I really just see him do that??' and he is in the gym he is working hard, he is getting treatment, and he doesn't act like a typical number 1 pick or, I mean I'm not labelling number 1 picks but they can have egos, any draft pick can, and he comes in, he works hard, and like I said like all of us, he wants to be here and get better and be a huge piece to this team"

Simmons is such a unique talent that seems to thrive at making his teammates better. His rebounding and assists are going to make the Sixers #s to go from being the worst in the league to the best. Add Embiid, Fultz, and several others, the Sixers are going to be very efficient at scoring with difficult match ups, whether it be a 6'10 PG or a 7'2 C. Also, the extra time the rotational players have gotten to grow their skills have gone unnoticed by most and unappreciated. They should have a very good 2nd unit to keep everyone fresh.

Re: Welcome Simmons
Am I the only one who isn't getting this?
Ben Simmons isn't really going to defend point guards the entire game is he?
if you say Roco and Fultz will defend guards then just put Simmons at SF
I mean, it's all semantics to me, but I feel like the general opinion of Ben Simmons is that he is a real PG who does normal PG things during a game
and the way they justify it usually starts off with "well you know Magic Johnson..."
Which is great. We're using a top 10 player of all time as the basis for a guy who hasn't played 1 minute in the NBA yet and couldn't even make the NCAA tourney
Yeah, doing big things though
I just wish people would pump the brakes just a little on this team.
We're going to make the playoffs, but that's not exactly hard to do.
I kind of feel like a hipster now but I think I liked it better when nobody cared about the Sixers. Now all you see are Simmons and Embiid jerseys.
I saw a guy in a Hollis Thompson jersey the other day and it made me smile.
It was a simpler time then...

I see Ben Simmons defending the other teams best playmaker. Lebron defending Durant and vice a versa, nobody can stop great playmakers but a mobile 6'10 Simmons should make it difficult, especially with a rim protector like Embiid. It gets tricky with players like Harden, Curry, Westbrook, and others, Brett Brown will have to come up with some team schemes to defend them. Anyway, I agree that the Sixers have a lot to prove before being considered winners, but if you watch the talent and skills of Simmons and Fultz it's easy to see those skills translating to the NBA.
