Re: George(x3) of the Jungle: Watch out for that Part III
Boston is on the clock. Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley enter free agency a year from now, meaning their trade value declines every day. Future picks become little less valuable as they become actual young players, and those young players can become a little less valuable as their cheapo rookie deals tick toward expiration.
So much of this offseason, for so many teams, hinges on what Boston can pull off now.
Start here: Dismiss the possibility of Boston signing Hayward, acquiring George, and then somehow signing George to an extension -- regardless of how they order the moves. They just can't open the room to do both without trading Al Horford.
If Boston trades for George, they will do so knowing he could be a rental. That limits the price they are willing to pay. Despite reports to the contrary, Boston has not included any of the following in its offers to the Pacers, per league sources: Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, the 2018 Nets pick, and the Lakers-Kings pick Boston snared from Philly in the Markelle Fultz blockbuster.
My best guess on Boston's standing George offer: Jae Crowder, Smart and Indiana's choice of protected first-round picks Boston owns from the Clippers and Grizzlies. That doesn't meet Indiana's goal of nabbing a top-10 pick or an equivalent talent. The Celtics will be reluctant to bid any higher given the risk of George bolting to the Lakers in a year.

I don't why the Celtics and some fans are so reluctant to give up the Lakers. The overvaluing of the assets is starting to get ridiculous now. Star players are not supppose to come cheap. That is why they are stars in the first place.

So we give them the lakers pick. We lose in 7 games to Cleveland and he bolts next year. That pick becomes # 3 in the 2018 draft. How do you feel about making that move now? Noone else has that Lakers pick and they still have a shot at getting him so why do we have to give it up? This isn't a regular star trade he's a rental

Wiz trying to send Porter for George. I think we gotta include the LAL pick if we want George.

I feel like I've been feeling like that too. A week ago, it seemed like Hayward was a done deal. Now it feels like he'll stay in Utah. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

If they want to pay Porter 28m a year instead of our package well let them. He's not a max contract guy.

I think you need to include more salary than just Smart and Crowder. If you replaced Smart for Bradley, it works.
And reluctance to include the LAL/SAC pick is because no other team is offering that much, so we don't have to go into a bidding war against ourselves.

I think IT will pretty much own Curry, same gies for Curry he will score on IT. Hayward has been much better than Thompson. George can match Durant and Horfies stats are very similar to Green. Rebounding edge to Green, Horfie is a more talented scorer and a better passer. Yes I said better passer. Overall slight edge to the Warriors but we should have a shot if the team gets the chemistry thing down. Also Brown will probably be our small ball 2, I expect big things from Jaylen in the near future.

Durant and Curry are MVPs.
Draymond is the DPOY.
Let me know when Hayward scores 39 in a quarter or 60 in 29 minutes.
Not saying anything about our potential guys being MVPs, but those awards are driven by wins. If we win 60-65 games (which they certainly could with that talent), one of our guys will be in the conversation if not a potential favorite for the award barring a historic season from a player ala Westbrook. George was on track to becoming a top 5-7 level player before his leg injury and Pacers roster blow up. He's the type of guy who will be in the conversation if we win a crap ton of games. Just how that works.
And there is more to the game than scoring when it comes to wings. Klay is one of the more overrated 'stars' in the game. I'd take Klay in a heartbeat, but Hayward has more versatility offensively. Klay has posted a PER above 20 once and has a career BPM of 0.5. Dude just doesn't rebound and pass that well even for a wing.
I believe Klay's defense is overrated by some for sure but his relative lack of rebounds is misleading since Klay is the play often guarding players on the perimeter whether they be PGs on SGs. End of the day, his team isn't hurting very often for rebounds but he does miss out on a few that a more athletic player at SG would get.
Klay has posted a TS% above 59% 3 straight years while also providing floor spacing at an elite level like a Ray Allen. In trying to build a championship team, I would give him the overall edge on Hayward.
One could argue Hayward may be the better as a #1 player on a teams offense since he can facilitate more in the halfcourt but I believe Klay is the better #2 or #3 option. Klay is still one of the best 3 point shooters in NBA history. Nearly 42% for his career during the regular season and over 40% in the playoffs. Some will say well he has played with Steph Curry...true that is of huge help but the truth also is Golden State after those 2 did not have that much offensive firepower at all for such an elite offense.
Assuming Boston adds George and Hayward and GSW keep Iggy.....Tough to rank some of the players but I'd go heading into next year.....not really talking fit on a particular team but just the better player to have on a generic team that has the talent to seriously compete for a title...
Regular season Steph Curry > KD > Draymond Green >= Paul George > Klay >= Hayward > Iggy > IT
Right now I'd go for post season I'd go KD >= Curry > Paul George >= Draymond Green > Klay >= Hayward > Iggy > IT

What if Porter doesn't want to play in Indiana? What if the Wiz piss him off and he knows other teams want him already? His management team will screw the Wiz in the blink of an eye.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

The great Otto Porter?
Crowder, in a better contract, and Smart is a better deal. I am Loathe to give up Bradley.

Exactly, giving up a potential top 4 pick in next years draft for a one year rental would be incredibly stupid, hopefully Danny realizes this...

Celtics should either add the Lakers pick or move on from Paul George. Stop talking to the Pacers. The pacers are not going to accept any deal that doesn't include the Lakers pick and rightfully so.

This why the celtics miss out on acquiring star players. They overvalue their assets and don't want to give them up. It is happening again. Oh well.

That's not how negotiations work.
