how is it disrespecting a 3rd/4th wheel role player that your teammates want to bring in a superstar?

Bc Porter is going to receive a max deal. Roundabout way I think he's saying don't tie money up in this guy when he thinks they can get George. That's how I read into it.

Honestly I think Washington would do well to pursue Melo as more realistic option than George.

Or maybe Paul can push for a trade to Wizards for small pieces (a la CP3) so the Wizards have Wall, Beal, George, and Porter.

Or if Porter agrees to S&T, he'll go to Indy with a protected pick for George.

I'm cool with KCP too. Piston fans say He's the only player on that team who gave a **** while in the court. He's a 2 way dude, athletic and can shoot the three. You're probably not getting 20 ppg from him but you'll get 16-18 on good shooting with good defense. Good pairing with LeVert on the perimeter.

Perhaps its a harbinger of JJ Reddick coming to town and Lin being sent to the bench.

DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

But yea, i felt Dimwiddie played strong enough that at worst he'd be 3rd string injury emergency PG, kinda surprised he wasnt the 1st one activated.

Or perhaps the team is looking to try to trade SKil and Harris packaged somewhere for assets. I would imagine SKil can have some decent trade value just by lieu of minimum contract and ability to score.

dinwiddies option didnt get picked up yet because the deadline for his hasnt come yet. thats later in july

i dont mind missing out on porter. he would instantly become a top 5 worst contact. he obiously provides a ton of great things and is young and while im now good with him after adding DLo im not upset if we dont make an offer or dont get him

i dont want KCP. even at bazemore money thats a bad deal. he is young and a good fit but he needs to be here for 15M per for me not to dislike the contract.

I think people think Otto is a better defender than he is. He's not that good at D. KCP's efficiency worries me too.

I'd be okay with either but also wouldn't be upset missing out on them.

I don't get the Redick interest. We have a pretty crowded young talented backcourt already, why add a 33 year old to a massive contract? What happened to signing young guys with potential since we don't care about giving Boston a good pick since it's a sunk cost at this point.

Redick would only come here for a massive contract, and why would we tie up money on someone who's in his mid-30s on a team that won't be contending anytime soon and someone who will just take minutes from LeVert/Russell/Whitehead etc

or

LMA/18 1st for Hamilton/Harris/1 of Goodwin/Dinwiddie

then

We sign Redick.

Move one of LeVert or Russell to 32mpg 6xth man with RHJ and Kilpatrick/who's left of Dinwiddie/Goodwin.

It makes a lot of sense.

Lin/Russell/Dinwiddie
Redick/Russell/Kilpatrick
LeVert/RHJ
LMA/RHJ/Nicholson
Mozgov/Allen/Nicholson

That's an above .500 playoff team in the East, even fighting for the 3 seed in the East and most of the big deals come off the books in 2 and 3 seasons. Winning and not overextending young guys promotes growth from within and we don't have a pick next year anyway.

Hard, hard pass on LMA brother. That guy doesn't give a rat's ass and then when he got called on it by Popovich he blamed the Spurs for ruining his game. Now THAT is a character issue.

i like both porter and KCP, they can score and defend, they has potential , it is why they are expensive . I hate someone who can shoot but not willing to defend... it will hurt the team

I hope the Pistons and Wizards match any offer. I don't want either guy at this point.

KCP would be a perfect fit, but that's waaaaay too much money for him. I was not impressed at all by Porter watching him in the post season.

I think Marks needs to relax with trying to max these guys. That includes Reddick.

KCP can defend. porter is average and struggles vs smaller gaurds. he can shoot it for a high percentage but i worry how much he can score if given a bigger role. he created very little of his own offense. to me if we bring him in its for the potentail and his length. he could be valuable as a small ball 4.

KCP scores but does it on poor percentages. he is also a gaurd without great length. id be happy with him contract aside... but the contract would make me upset about it, i dont want to look at our cap and see 25M next to a role player

proter/KCP make more sense for me now that we traded brook for Dlo. that free'd up some money and we have a super young core now.

that said, half of me wants both to be matched. id hate to see those guys here on near max deals. but id love the fit of either.

Until next season when someone else is signed. The guy is a 23 year old 2 way player who brings a 3pt shooting element we desperately need on the wing. We have some big contracts coming off the books in 3 years (Moz, D-Will, Nicholson) and even at this level if he doesn't improve at all in year 3 he'll be a valuable expiring. In 2017 and 2018 he helps the team the first two years of his deal and in 2019 he's got 2 years left an is no longer a bad deal. By 2020 he's a good player on a large expiring. He'll probably have much value at that point and could land us a 1st like Bogs.

I want to win next year and Porter helps that. We should sign him 4 year /25 per does nothing to our cap since we can clear another 21M by letting Booker walk and Lin opt out. We then have 26/27M in cap space again and a nice young trio of wings. There is little downside to signing Otto. We should go for it.

I still think Otto Porter is the best fit by far.

Call me crazy but I still think he has all-star potential. Amazing shooter, good defender, still very young. He has all the tools he needs to be 20 PPG scorer. And we need someone at his position anyway.

Russell
LeVert
Porter
RHJ
Mozgov

This is my ideal starting lineup for next season. With Jeremy Lin being our 6th man and leading the second unit.

My biggest fear if the Pacers. If its true that Boston isn't offering LA pick, our pick or either Brown or Taytum then I think Otto Porter is the best asset they can acquire.

Hes young and he plays the same position as George. Great fit for a rebuilding team. Smart trade for the Pacers if they want it.

i dont think porter helps us win. he is a role player. bringing him in would be committing even more to development and a long rebuild. he is another kid you try and improve. not a win now piece. 3 point shooting is a need i agree but im paying 25 million for a guy to sit in the corner and shoot threes. i also think his percentages go way down as a focal point instead of a 4th option.

i love the fit too...but i wouldnt call him an amazing shooter or good defender. definitely not a good defender. not a bad one, but he certaily isnt someone you can rely on. he is long though, and i think you can live with him defending PFs i think his value is there.

he is a great catch and shoot guy. i cant call him an amazing shooter when he isnt shooting off the dibble or off screens. great stand still catch and shoot guy but most of his attempts are created for him. and he will get tons of those here. but he isnt like a reddick or klay or korver who is shooting on the move, off the dribble, etc..

Agreed on Porter's D, although I wouldn't say he isn't good at it. He's a solid defender on 3's and 4's and can switch, he just has trouble with guards, he's certainly no stud defender.

I'm not OK with KCP, but I'll live with it if it happens.

I get that everyone has hesitations about each and every potential free agent we can bring in, but you gotta remember you need to balance

A) what they've shown you so far in their NBA career, with

B) their upside potential, with

C) their fit in Kenny's system (and to add, the culture of Brooklyn basketball)

Yeah Porter disappeared with Bogie and in the playoffs at times, but in a featured starting role with a top-5 3 point shooting team, might he put up way more attempts/makes per game? Isn't he still 3-5 years away from his prime too?

JJ would create more of a log jam and he'd be the oldest guy on the team at 33, and how do we start him, but aren't we trying to go positionless basketball with guys who can space? Wouldn't he and Lin provide tremendous chemistry and leadership together?

KCP might look like massive overpay, but he's a great defender at the 2-3 that we need and might not have been used the best of ways in SVG's system. Didn't the Pistons fans say that he was the only one on the court that always cared, even in big losses? Isn't that the kind of attitude you want here in Brooklyn? (hello, Deron "dog" WIlliams) Who's to say he would play up to his big contract too?

To each his own, but I think you gotta take into consideration the whole picture and not just these guys for what they've been so far.

I don't worry a lot about expanding Porter's role for 2 reasons.

1. His role wouldn't be expanded much. He still be considered the easy fit in any lineup glue guy, he'd just take more shots because we play at a higher pace and jack more 3's. We're still going to put our eggs in the Russell/LeVert/Lin basket on offense, even Skil as the bench microwave. You hope for some natural growth that would come with experience, but you're paying him knowing he's way overpaid, but still everything else about his game and age fits our timeline, culture and system. If he turned a corner that's just the cherry on top.

2. His percentages and efficiency are borderline irrepeatable unless he wound up on a team like GSW or San An. I would expect natural regression, but that doesn't mean he'll suddenly be inefficient.
