I'd imagine he'd be a bench piece at this point.

Re: Around the NBA, 2016-17 Season thread
But why the hell should a team care if they're rebuilding/tanking? It's not like Indiana was going to be competing with Boston anytime soon. Hell, they aren't even in the same division. Pacers could have also traded PG to Lakers for a better package than what they got from Thunder. Oladipo is a mediocre player on a bad contract. Sabonis might become a decent player, far from a certainty. It's a terrible return. Nets could have hypothetically offered RHJ + Whitehead, even that would be a better return IMO.Mkdaman1818 wrote:DarkXaero wrote:I can't understand why the hell Pacers even considered that Thunder offer, let alone accept it. Obviously, I'm delighted that he didn't go to Boston and actually ended up going to a team that I like. But still, it makes absolutely no sense to me. I'd be furious right now if I was a Pacers fan.
Seems clear they were focused on trading him out or conference, can't believe Cleveland (Love) or Boston didn't offer a better package for that.

Lol, Ainge is constantly overplaying himself. Trying to look smart, but ends up as a dummy. I feel sorry for the hopeful Celtics fans (haha... not really) who are always having such dream scenarios in their heads, but end up with nothing. Even if they get Hayward, which is quite a long shot at this point because i think he is going back to Utah, they still dont improve enough to be relevant and will probably go to cap hell, starting from next season as their "sweet deals" are running out (Bradley + IT).

I don't understand how in the world do some of these GMs have jobs, PG to OKC is the steal of the century! Nets could of put a better package than that

Oladipo is a hometown kid and previously averaged 16/4/4 as a primary option in Orlando before being second fiddle to Westbrook. Oladipo/Sabonis/Turner is a better starting core than people may think.
The Cs were offering Crowder, 2018 1st (Cs own). Danny Ainge was being a complete dick towards Indiana expecting them to sit and wait for Hayward to choose Boston. I also think Indiana might try to make a run at Hayward. He's from Indiana.

I don't think they are in a good position going forward.
If they wanted to rebuild they should have kept Fultz and traded Thomas.
Now they have a bunch of rookies stuck behind a 50 win teams full of veterans.
Makes no sense to me at all.
they are a 50 win team stocked with top 3 picks... yet this is a bad thing? lol.
no one is stuck. brown and tatum will be the first guys off the bench. both will play plenty. boston is good now and will continue to be good for a long time as long as injuries dont play a role.
why would they rebuild? they are 1 lebron injury or move to LA from being in the nba finals
I didn't say its a bad thing. Its just an incredible waste.
Boston had a chance to challenge the Warriors if they added Hayward and George/Butler.
I don't see the purpose of "top 3 picks" on 50 win teams. When was the last time you saw a player develop on a really good team.
The most recent example we had was Darko.
19 year old players need a lot of playing time and patience to reach their full potential. I just don't see that happening in Boston. Its not going to happen by "coming off the bench."
One LeBron injury? LOL
You mean the guy that never gets injured.
I'm not convinced that they beat Washington next season. I think they over achieved last year.
yeah adding top young talent is never a waste/
as far as the last time a young player developed on a really good team. how about kawai leonard?

What would it look like for the Celtics to re-sign Thomas and Bradley next year and would they re-sign them?

Celtics are at 36 Million in salary the 2018-19 season (after next year). If they max Gordan you can make that 64 million.
id assume IT would get a deal based on what Holiday got. lets call it 5/150. thats 94 million. im not sure what bradley gets in his 30's. maybe 15-18 million? lets call it 4/70. so thats 111 million.
Then you have olynk who ill assume is gone this offseason and zeller who they would need to decide on. he probably gets between 12-14 million. call it 4/48.
so basically:
123 million with heyward.
96 million without heyward
they can go over the cap for their own guys, so if they are going to add talent in free agency they need to do it this offseason. next year they wont be able to chase free agents unless they want to let isiah walk.
I think resigning thomas/bradley 100% depends on what they do this offseason. if they get heyward then i think they bring those guys back. if they dont get heyward i think they let them walk (or more liekly trade them at the deadline) and look to lure better players

Precisely why I asked. Thank you, sir.

Hayward isn't going to Indiana. He has said that the top requirement for him is to join a team that can contend for a title. The Pacers are a long way from there.

Re: Around the NBA, 2016-17 Season thread
I think the Celtics biggest mistake is putting all their eggs in their current pg crop, smart and rozier are two of the worst offensive players in the league
And if IT comes back from injury and isn't 100% the same speed wise he could be in for a quick drop off in level of play...

Re: Around the NBA, 2016-17 Season thread
Their best chance to maintain flexibility would have been taking Fultz and letting IT go.
And missing out on Butler AND George on the same offseason they both needed to be traded, is just a sin by Ainge. Unforgivable in my opinion, those were his to make it work...

Hmm...
I'd prefer a defensive minded big man for Afro's development but Monroe is a good stop gap as well.
