Crowder can take it to the hoop but he doesn't like the pain. When driving he is fairly good but he refuses to do it as he hits the floor hard and it hurts.

Interesting theory. It might also explain why sprained ankles are a huge problem for him.

I'll allow you your Crowder love because I've been trying to convince myself all week that losing Bradley would be worth getting George. I actually woke up kind of happy.

Not much in terms of offensive skill set and athleticism, but Crowder is an RPM stud. Good things happen when he's on the floor.

A stat where Jokic ranks 11 players higher than AD and 12 higher than Giannis, tells you all you need to know about RPM.

Last year was as good as can be expected out of Jae. He is the fifth best starter on a contending team at best, but likely more suited to a sixth/seventh man role.

Happy to have him, but to expect more than what he has given isn't realistic. Overrated defenders and streaky first half shooters are what they are.

Realistically, this is possible. Theoretically, this is bull. He turns 27 in July, has a history of overachieving vs expectations, and has been trending upward each year in the league. And there is obvious room for his game to mature - which is relevant because typically, players often improve a lot after turning 21 and to a lesser extent 23, and then they don't necessarily take any more big steps forward until they hit their peak around 26-30 (usually 27-28). This is that overlap when games and habits tend to mature yet players still have durability and athleticism. This is where Bruce Bowen or Adrian Griffin breaks into the league and makes a name for himself. When and if you resigned Jae two seasons ago, you were resigning him in large part for the improvement you expected him to make at this age.

His durability may be a question mark in the sense that he plays harder than he is durable, until he no longer plays so hard because he wasn't as durable as he had previously played.

There's also a cap on his talent, but IMO you don't let him go unless somebody offers an obvious overpay based on RAPM or what not. It is not only not smart, but it sends the wrong message when you sign the guy for a contract that has come to be known as a team friendly bargain, and he shows up playing hard day by day.

I didn't say let him go, but I'd say you can make an argument that Jae really wasn't all that much better this season than the year prior. Shooting improved, defense regressed. I'd call it a wash. I hope I'm wrong, but I believe he's reached his ceiling, which is certainly a lot higher than most ever expected it to be. That said, trying to somehow rationalize him as a consolation prize on missing out on PG like OP is doing is utter nonsense.

And in a pick up game of RPM, he's an absolute stud. Top 20 RPM player in the world, really.

For the record, the trade that still bothers me the most was when we shipped Ainge out.

The stats on him are an absolute mirage. YMCA guys can hit layups better than him.

I interpret them as 'the way the current Boston Celtics operate when they have a competent SF on the floor.'

I'm enthused that this forum has seen through the Crowder hype in less than 12 months. He's a solid NBA player and placeholder but that's it. Ideally he's a 25 mpg 6-8th man with multiple stud starting cast. He cant be your premier starting wing I think we all know that now.
