The Rond-about

Post#1 » by Wammy Giveaway » Sun Jul 2, 2017 5:19 am

Another former member of Doc's 2008 Celtics championship team could be looking to join the Clippers...

Read on Twitter

Rajon Rondo will be doing more than to provide a nostalgic high for Doc Rivers to reminisce about the good ol' days.

He could be looking to replace Chris Paul as the proverbial superstar and starting point guard for the Clippers.

Until further notice, Rajon Rondo is automatically a Clipper, which could put a few more players on the trading block.

I would rather just keep Beverly. Yes, Rondo at the top of his game is a better overall player but there is too much downside to signing him- most notably that he can't seem to get along with anyone

It really goes to show how badly we screwed up the CP3 situation, as well as the lack of an adequate replacement (what happened to Rubio?) that this is looking like a decent move as of this moment.

I actually think Rondo will get along just fine with everyone. Blake and DJ are very chill, low-maintenance dudes and say what you will about Doc, but this is one guy I trust he'll incorporate to the team just fine.

I don't know how I'm ever going to forgive the Clippers' new front office.

Is it feasible to have TWO people who can't shoot on the floor in 2017?

Nonetheless, Rondo kicked up **** in Boston.
He kicked up **** in Dallas.
He kicked up **** in Chicago.

The Boston and Chicago problems seemed to be based on preferential treatment of players/ players thinking theyre above reproach. Not hard to see the Austin Rivers thing getting old with him quick.

Yup. I dont trust Rondo, and dude is going to want to start. I want Beverley on the floor as much as possible based on our roster right now.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

You're like a broken record with this and don't really listen to any of the explanations we've given. Are you still going to keep holding on to this idea that the Clippers were in the driver's seat as it related to CP?

This reminds me of MTV when he first came here basically saying in every thread that Paul should have taken a paycut to help the Clippers get more talent, despite being shown with the actual salary cap that unless Paul took basically the MLE, the Clippers wouldn't have had any significant cap space to do anything.

Rondo isn't terrible, but why would he be considered a good fit next to Blake? He shrinks the floor and is a heavily on ball PG which we supposedly didn't want to have anymore next to Blake.

I'd only consider Rondo if we get value for Beverly and he signs for the min, otherwise, I really don't want him here, despite everyone assuming he's guaranteed to come.

Please no. Signing a ball dominant guard who can't shoot is the worst way to build around Blake. The ball needs to be in Blake's hands a lot more with this iteration of the Clippers, with him surrounded by shooters. Rondo doesn't do any of those things. Off ball guards that can shoot and defend is what you should be looking for, ie why Beverly is a great fit. Woj put it out there that Swaggy could go for taxpayer exception money to the Warriors. I'd much rather double their offer and sign him.

Because none of the explanations answered my point.

My point was that even if the Clippers weren't in the drivers' seat for this particular event in CP3's time here, per se, they had six years to build a championship contender around him. It wasn't necessarily the trade itself for me, it was the whole chain of events of how things got to this level in the 1st place. Contrary to popular belief, superstars rarely enjoy leaving their original teams.

I should have specified that it was not necessarily the specific CP3 trade, but the whole series of events that led to him wanting out. I will admit now Clippers may not have been the favorites to retain him, but they weren't completely out of the running either. It's simply not true that he already had one foot out the door like PG did with the Pacers and it's revisionist history to claim that right now after he's gone.

IMHO, it's a superstar's league, and they're really valuable.

And, if there was ANY chance of keeping a superstar, you do whatever within reason to make him happy if you want a successful team, ESPECIALLY if he has designs on bringing another superstar around. It wasn't really so much the fact that he left, it was more I felt the organization didn't do enough to keep him around, and to me that's one of the things that separates a successful franchise from the others. KP was on the verge of leaving the Knicks too, but even the Knicks knew to step in as an organization and change his mind.

Regarding Rondo, he won't replace CP3 but he still does a lot of the same things at an elite level, such as playmaking, and he's a capable defender too. He's actually a pretty good midrange shooter IIRC, and more importantly he can get DJ involved in the offense. People can say whatever about his off-court fit but for me, for the right price(say a 1 year stop gap) it's worth a try while still maintaining flexibility for the future.

my favorite part about all this is i would literally rather read any of wammy's stories than these full on delusions about chris paul.

Clearly nobody read my post. Or did everyone think the organization did everything it could to give CP3 a proper supporting cast in each of the last six years?

Meh, I can't be bothered anymore. It's like there's always an excuse for failure with you guys and a complete lack of willingness to learn and improve and grow from this. It's actually exactly the same thing with fans of the my other team in my profile. Coincidentally(or not), both team now have title droughts of 27+ years now

It's funny how the soccer team I root for seems burdened by its' previous success, while the basketball team I root for seems burdened by its' previous LACK(or LAC, hehe :noway:) of success, but it just always has to be a burden lol. It's almost poetic, except not really.
