You may also remember this guy named Tracy McGrady? He agreed to sign with Orlando, but it was actually processed as a sign and trade so we could get a pick out of it.

It happens every single summer in some way or form.

And it took days to make it a sign and trade after the original signing?

Because with how s&ts work, the player must agree to be traded to x team when he signs that contract, so its basically always a s&t as soon as he signs I don't remember it happening any other way. I'll research it when I'm on a computer though cba doing it from a phone in bed

Nobody has signed yet. These are just commitments. For example, Carroll committed to Toronto on July 1st when he signed. His actual contract was signed on July 9th. Here is a picture of him actually doing it:

This stuff happens every year.

I understand how free agency moratorium period works that wasn't my point. It's extremely rare that you see a delay where a player signs and days later it turns out to be a s&t. The delly example was okay but was sort of different as he was a rfa and the cavs had a ton of leverage as they probably just told the bucks to give them a tpe or they would just match the offer and the bucks would lose delly.

Factoring taxes, he is actually going to earn more, albeit over 4 years. If we assume a vet min in his 4th year at 37, it's pretty much a wash.

Isn't he from Texas. He can claim his tax there as his permanent residency even if he played for the raptors. This is very common based on tax treaties Canada has with the United States and is often done by athletes. But I'm not an accountant or anything and it appears we have a lot of tax experts on this board, so maybe I'm wrong.

Welp, there goes Admirable Accountable.. our Culture Change Captain.

I don't blame him for wanting to go to a better situation. The Raptors are at a crossroads at the moment, with no clear cut direction for which way they want to go as a team/organization. That level of uncertainty can dissuade a veteran player like PJ that wants to win now. The way we consistently failed to execute and perform at an elite level in the playoffs, could've possibly left a bad taste in his mouth. Ultimately, affecting his decision making this offseason.

When your president has to publicly voice his displeasure with the style of play, and lack of offensive system in place; it's something that's not totally reassuring to a UFA weighing his options. Then for Casey to openly agree to conform, to save his ass; it's something that lowers his credibility and the overall belief in him as the leader of this team. Overall, Tucker made the right decision IMO. Go for it while you can.

I have a feeling he didn't like the whole Brick Bros/ Casey dynamic where they were given free reign to empty the clip, with less accountability, and everybody else had to be a good little soldier. We saw several moments where he was visibily upset on the court. Not to mention the embarrassing playoff performances this team produced.

Not saying it was the whole reason but it probably made it easier for him to leave once some established stars came calling.

It's really hard for athletes to claim residency elsewhere. A lot of the time, you only need to live in a city for half a year to be considered a full time resident.

Athletes are taxed based on where they play their games. Each state in the US and province in Canada has its own rules, but it's always a derivative of # of days worked in state/# of days worked total or # of games in state/# of games total. So their summer days don't really count. Now they can have other income sources that would be taxed differently, but their salaries are taxed in this manner. Taxing days worked in this manner is actually called a jock tax because it's athletes that are hit by it most visibly.

So by playing and living in Houston, Tucker can shield between 50% to 70% of his salary from state/provincial taxes depending on his team's travel schedule.

Oh come on, he's walking into a situation where the whole philosophy is to chuck a lot of 3s with dantoni as a coach. Which is exactly emptying the clip. We don't have to bash our organization or team just because someone left.

There is a difference between elite 3-point shooters emptying the clip in a system that creates open looks versus players forcing mid-range shots with 2 players in front of them.

If Rockets offered Ryan Anderson for Carroll and resigned Tucker would folks want that? Assuming of course that Ibaka and Lowry are back.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….
