Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread II
If we made these 2 moves id be thrilled with our offseason:
1) Trade Justin Hamilton for Demare Carroll, Lucas Nogueira, and the best of their 2018 2nd round picks.
I've followed Noguiera since Boston drafted him. You may recall me suggested we deal booker for him at the deadline earlier this year. he is a 7 foot guy who is super long and skilled. he is basically like an older more skilled jarret allen clone. very similar to allen in how he finishes with either hand around the rim. he is super active on defense. steals, deflections, blocks and runs the floor.
I think if he goes somewhere he can get consistent minutes he could be a breakout player. not like whiteside break out but be like a 12/10/3 player who makes tons of disruptive plays. he can also has good form from three.
only 24 years old.
2) Sign patrick patterson or kelly olynk.
this gives us a stretch big and another younger player who fits our timeline. id prefer olynk but also lover patterson grit and he is a local guy.
Lin | Russell | Levert | RHJ | Nogueira
Dinwiddie | Whitehead |Carroll | Olynk | Allen

If Sean Marks was a wrestler, he would probably do something like this:

If the Raps are not willing to give us a future protected first as a sweetener, Nogueira is the one young player I'd want the most. Normal Powell is pretty decent as well, but we already have a stacked backcourt and the Raptors are super high on him.
Nogueira was already a servicable fantasy player last year. PER36, his stats were 8 and 8 with 2 steals and 3 blocks.

Yeah i like powell too but like you said we are kind of packed at G/Wing and powell is a big part of their rotation while nogeira hasnt been so i think they'd be more willing to move him.
but i can see nogiera really blossoming with with playing time and someone like kenny. with the raps they are so win now he didnt really get playing time and Valancuinas is young and owed big dollar so they prioritzed him

More on Nogueira:
Dude knows where to go with the ball (ignore the hyperbole title of the video):
Active hands... deflections, blocks, rebouds.... high iq plays
Finishing, offensive glass work... rolling to the basket
He has a high IQ and such a great feel for the game. size, skill... this kid has potential.

Bojan is also receiving interest from Atlanta and Denver. He's headed to a $15m offer sheet for the Wiz as well.

If we trade for Carroll. Assets i'll be asking for is a combination of the 2018 first round pick AND Bruno, Powell, or OG.

Am I crazy for liking Caldwell-Pope more than Porter?
Just purely off of watching them, it just looks so much easier and effortless for KCP to score compared to Porter

Yup, their first rounder will not be high so we definitely need another asset

MrDollarBills wrote:This is kind of dicey. I know that we shouldn't be totally averse to risk but man, that is a large amount of cap room to give to a guy who isn't a star.
But then again, the prospect of having a trio of Russell/KCP/LeVert locked in long term is enticing especially if all three continue to develop.
If Marks thinks the risk is worth it, I will roll with it albeit with some anxiety. I've seen enough of KCP to know that he'd fit right in here and is the kind of guy that would compete on both ends and get his hands dirty.
Just keep him off the roads after a few shots and a beer though.
hahaha you had to get that last jab in there

the idea of russell KCP and Levert is really appealing to me too man... yeah it's risky but that could be an outstanding trio for a LONG time.

Porter is assisted on 69% of his 2s and 96% of his corner 3s.
KCP was assisted on 54% of his 2s and 84% of his corner 3s.
I think KCP would probably put up Porter like percentages next to Wall instead of Reggie Jackson. I don't think it's crazy at all. It's just a short term bad fit but could be a long term investment depending on contract structure and Lin's future.

iIf they aren't willing to give up their prospect, I'll gladly hand them over Nicholson's contract. That first round pick is going to be in the 20s which is simply not worth taking in 16 more mill of cap space. Even if players aren't targeting us as main destinations. The ability to have mobility to take on bad contracts in the future will always be there. We just need to wait for that chick to get drunk in the bar and take advantage of her

I don't mind KCP as a player. I do think he can help in the future. I just think Lin has such a prominent role for us that taking on KCP is not intelligent. I think KA and Marks is looking to keep Lin just because of the leadership he brings to the table. You can't say the same for KCP. We don't even know what D-Lo is going to be as leader. So having Lin Mentoring him as a person will help. I have a feeling Lin will be a Net for the rest of his career.

Sacramento has a ton of room. Don't be surprised if we pass on Porter just so Sacramento can be financially tied into their offer sheets.

I'm good with Russell-CL-KCP Or Russell-CL-Otto... I think either one of those players will look a lot better under kenny's system.
Don't like the contracts being mentioned but we have so much cap space so I'm not opposed to it. I'm fine with either KCP/Otto or salary dump plus asset.
Patterson plus KCP/Otto would be ideal.

good find. and similar years of service as that was butlers 3rd year compared to KCP's 4th. 3rd-4th year is typically when you can expect an uptick. this would be year 5 for KCP.
