Great start to the series. Has anyone been more valuable to the team this year than Shaw? I also think Arcia getting comfortable is really giving me a chub. Love his game.

Really hope shaw didn't break his hand on that hbp.

Arcia took a little while to get used to MLB pitching but dude is just locked in right now. He's got a chance to be REALLY good.

Arcia hustles down that ball that just got past his glove into left field just to hold the runner at first in an 8-1 game. Baller.

Meanwhile Braun was in a Domingo trot because our outfielders don't seem to care about the little things.

If you ever want to show a kid the right way to play the game, show them Arcia highlights for an hour. The kid isn't so young and exciting it's infectious.

Also those jerseys they were wearing are sick.

Too bad Doug didn't screw up the Davies' trade. With the type of pitching prospect they should have gotten for Parra, they'd be 10 up right now if he were in the majors by now.

That was in English. The Parra for Davies trade by Melvin before he stepped down was poor. Should have gotten better value in it. If it was a different AA/AAA pitching prospect than Davies, the Brewers could have a couple more wins right now, and have some distance in the division. Davies is 9-4, in 17 appearances, but has a 5+ ERA. That's sub-par. It's pretty straight-forward.

Butchered English, but anyways and 10 games up is insane.

What exactly did you expect for half of a season of Parra who was only a mediocre starting outfielder? Davies was at worst fair compensation or an overpay by Baltimore.

As for the team having a couple more wins had Melvin gotten a different pitcher instead.

1. You have no idea if a different pitcher had been sent over, that the guy would even be on the big league roster right now, much less be pitching better.

2. The team is 11-6 in games Davies has started. Maybe had someone else started those games, the Brewers go 12-5 or 13-4. Or maybe not.

Davies was projected to be a 4th-5th starter type at the time of the trade. Can't expect much more than that for 2 months of Gerardo Parra.

I recall everybody knowing that Parra was having a fluke year and to not expect much in return. Unless you can name a particular prospect Melvin could have received, I don't think this trade was bad nor great. Getting an actual rotation starter might actually make it a win.

When I was a kid, winning % had a lot more value than it does now. Jack Morris comes to mind, as well as Nolan Ryan. The next era seemed to be about "quality starts." Broadcasters would even cite that statistic on a regular basis. Nowadays, it seems like "give your team a chance to win" has become a non-statistical phrase. By those metrics Davies is alright, especially since he has become exactly what he was expected to be at the time of the trade - a back end of the rotation starter with a cheap contract.

The Brewers are 11-6 in games he has started and 9-4 in decisions. Let's do some cherry-picking here. Take away his worst 4 starts (2 of which were his first two of the season) and his ERA is 3.63.

He isn't great, but neither was Parra.
