Re: Schultz: Raptors also shopping Jonas Valanciunas -- there is interest
Here's the thing about JV, his deal is good enough that even if he's not always effective in the PnR on defense and is to slow to play small ball or whatever, plenty of teams will want him simply because he gives them another look offensively, and one that is in rare supply these days.
I don't think Toronto will have trouble moving him at all.

Get ready to lose alot of games like this. Serge or Poelt won't be able to compete against the Embiids and Cousins on a consistent basis. Easy 2nd chance baskets, taking up space, and rolling to the basket will be missed.

The moment Casey said they are a PNR team but only for DD and KL, with only "2 or 3" PNR plays for JV, this thought should be over.
Watching DD and KL's PNR ball handler points per possession tank every playoffs while JV's remains steady just furthers my inability to comprehend some of the dumbest stuff this team does offensively.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

Embiid had 26/9 on 13 against him and jv had 10pts in only meeting last season. I'm sure ibaka or poeltl can do a better job than that and cousins is in the west

I totally agree, Not sure why we would't be moving DMC n Cojo before Val. He isn't a detriment as the public makes him out to be. He's automatic from the low post and hits his fts, sets monster screens. It's our scheme that can be changed in order to not get him left out on a island.

Embiid is a bad example - that guy is so fluid. Even if JV could guard him, Embiid only averages like 10 games a season so we probably will only play him once or twice in his career (half-joking).
I will say that I think JV is a good player. We saw games (like against Boston) where he dominated them. We also saw him play some really good games after the trades, when he was in limited minutes and really playing pissed off. If he doesn't fit what we're doing, I think we're fine to trade him I guess. But if it is just to shed salary, that makes us a worse team next year. Trading away a young 12/10 big man on a low enough salary seems like a bad basketball move to me. I don't really care about Luxury tax payments - we all know that the value of NBA franchises is ridiculous right now.

Also need to do something about Carroll playing so many minutes at SF. Dude isn't athletic enough to do so anymore.

I think jakob poeltl can be that 12/10 player with. Better passing and defense just needs mins. 28-30 each night
Poeltl freshman year to sophomore year in college he made unbelievable progress. I think we will see the start rookie to sophomore progression of that in summer league which starts on Friday

Sometimes when you love something, you have to set it free.
Many on this forum believe in Jonas' talent, but also understand Coach Casey will never be able to utilize those talents. We would like to see him do well somewhere else, while we use that money on someone perhaps our boneheaded coach can incorporate into our game. Of course like most players, JV has flaws.

December 14, 2016
JV: 17/10
Embiid: 9/6
January 8, 2017
JV: 10/15
Embiid: 26/9
If you're talking about the January 8th game he shot 6 for 13 - JV went 5-11 and still picked up more boards than him in both games. I get you do not like JV, but to say he can't keep up with Embiid is outrageous and Poeltl can do better ? Okay, if you say so.

if we take a look at the east, these are the big men:
horford, tt, gortat, maker, turner, lopez, whiteside, drummond, dwight, kp, embiid, vujevic.
so in terms of playoff matchups, i see ibaka holding his own against 1/2 of them. if we come up against lopez, whiteside, drummond,d dwight or embiid in the playoffs, he will get destroyed.

The guy is like 25. Why don't we have him slim down and go back to how he was when we drafted him. The nimble big that had some explosiveness. The added muscle just makes it tiring for him to run around and chase guys in open space.
Honestly, the other guys we've seen given up for nothing (Noel, Nurkic) weren't doing much for the team that sold them. JV has shown that he is a great post scorer and rebounder. He's not a 30 year old lost cause that can't get better
Carroll is really the only one we need to dump. He isn't contributive to the team and is getting old and near passed all usefulness

Yes he your right I thought embiid was injured for 3 of the meetings
So embiid
17.5pts/7.5rebs and jv 13/12rebs
But embiid will get much better since last year was his rookie year. I think in future poeltl will be the best defender on him. Much more fluid on defense
