honestly not worried, he looked noticably better on the perimeter and stronger. While yes White blew by him a bunch, HE help side will be much different in the NBA where everybody blows by everybody. Offensively he's going to dictate minutes but whats going to determine how many minutes is his rebounding. SVG loves him some 2nd chance opps & defensive stops(DRB).

I think if we've seen anything over the past year of NBA basketball, it's that you can't play a guy with Ellenson's lack of athleticism at the 4 anymore. If you're playing 2-4 you need to be able to handle some switches and be able to passably hang with guards on the perimeter. Ellenson just doesn't have the foot-speed for it. Long-term he's gonna have to play the 5, and he should be able to handle it as a backup with his rebounding/height.

Your absolutely right, he'll be a 5 when teams go small, and that is the new trend. However its not like teams aren't going to attack him on the perimeter just because he's now classified as a "center". I think the issue here is that we are still discussing the 4 and 5 spot in their traditional sense when the reality is the definition of both those position is drastically different in todays NBA and that a lot of the times its definition is a matter of what players are in the current lineup.

There's a good chance Ellenson will play 5 on occasion in the future, but too much is being made of the White matchup. It's not one you'd go with normally. Harris or Morris would get the assignment. They let it go for experience and evaluation IMO.

Agree. Unfortunately he could only match up with lightweights... No free passes for non defenders.

Kennard absolutely needs to get playtime this season and should be in the rotation at the start of the season. Kid can just flat out shoot the ball and in my 30+ years,of watching ball, never has shooting been at such a premium.

Straight backup SG and on occasion rotate to the SF.

20+ Minutes a night no brainer. Best shooter on the team already.

This has to happen. If you really want to open it up and see what the team has;

Jackson/Smith
Pope/Luke
Harris/Morris
Henry/Leuer
Drummond/whatever

Or
Jackson/Smith
Pope/Luke
Morris/Stanley
Harris/Leuer
Drummond/Henry

The second is more likely but both guys, especially Luke HAVE to get major burn. Their games(shooting)are what's needed in the current game, and what's needed badly for the Pistons.

We'll see though.

I think Kennard would benefit from playing alongside Ish, SJ (Henry) & Jon

SJ defends the best scorer between SG & SF

Jon defends the best scorer between PF & C

As long as Luke & Henry can hold their own we could get by long enough for our starters to get a breather

That makes the starting line up:

RJ, KCP, Harris, Mook & Dre - which is probably how it should be with Mook defending the best scorer between the SF & PF
