Wall may leave with or without Otto, but that's in two years.

If you believe in Oubre & depth is your biggest issue, $23mil could plug a few holes. If you can find depth, a sign & trade becomes an option. My understanding is that terms have been agreed upon, but nothing signed yet.

The Wizards were willing to commit to something like $15M on that fifth year and therefore offered something like 5 years $121M. Otto felt that the fifth year should have been guaranteed at something more like $20-25M and wanted a 5-year deal worth $130M. The Wizards refused so Otto took the 4-year deal from Brooklyn.
If that's how it broke down, then I think EG made the right move. I really don't think Otto will command a $20-25M a year salary in 2021. The downside is that, by matching the Brooklyn deal, the Wizards are likely to face a luxtax payment unless they can find a way to unload Jason Smith's contract (or Gortat's).

We'll see. If they really want Cousins next season to appease Wall, yes, they are going to need to dump some $$$ and get players with one year left back.

Would very much like to see a full post detailing how exactly the wizards could shed enough to pursue Boogie next offseason. Assume they would have to dump Mahinmi/Gortat/Smith and renounce anyone else hitting free agency next year while also only taking on, like you said, 1 year expiring deals. Wall-Beal-Oubre-Porter-Cousins would be really good though.
By my math, even if they do all of that, that would only create around 10 million or so below the cap and they would need 18 million more somehow. Don't see it as possible without a sign and trade

This!!!!! Is exactly what I was saying and to the guy saying I hope he doesn't want to be here....don't think for me. I am a Hoya fan, I am also a Wizards fan; more importantly I am a Otto Porter fan!!!! Let me clarify my statements; Otto damn sure would love to be here; but he is not a fool, it comes a point when you have had enough of the garbage. If you really wanted him here you wouldn't be letting other teams do the negotiating for you. Deal would've been done from the start of FA. Everyone and their mother knew Otto was going to get the Max. Hell, I heard it said on a national radio program before the allstar break; deal should've been open & shut. Grunfield has never liked Otto; his actions are quite clear. Leonis needs to wake up get this clown Grunfield out of town. If he doesn't want to spend then sell the team to someone who does. Just to remind folks the Wizards matching Otto would take them into the Luxury Tax and then there's the Wall extension that Wall hasn't signed yet. We will see if Ted wants to paid the Luxury Tax or if Grunfield gets spooked by Wall's reluctance to sign the extension offer.
