If LeBron comes to the Lakers...

Post#1 » by Slink » Wed Jul 5, 2017 2:30 am

Don't know if this has been posted before but...on the general board I read that LeBron wouldn't want to come to the Lakers because he would have to compete with Kobe's legacy. I don't see it this way. I don't recall anyone saying Shaq had to compete with Wilt's or Kareem's legacy when he came to the Lakers. If Lebron comes he can establish his own legacy. Would you welcome him? Would it also somehow tarnish his legacy if he did come to the Lakers?

He'll have his own legacy separate from the others. I don't know about other franchises, but Lakers have always embraced each legend in their own way, each legend contributing uniquely to Lakers history

His legacy is already set. And of course you'd welcome a great player to your team.

Although yes legends are always welcome in LA the OP has a valid question in a round about sort of way... Kobe cast a very large shadow and I have wondered if Lebron himself would welcome that challenge, it's not the fans I wonder about but about Lebron himself... If he doesn't win here, ouch...

Reason Shaq didn't get to much comparison (he did get some, more so as his time here in LA went along and the Lakers were missing the playoffs) but the reason he didn't get too much was because his stye of play was so much different than Kareem's, night and day really and Wilt had been here 25 years earlier, Kareem was grouchy Shaq ws jovial, the circumstances made it easy for Shaq...

Kobe's only been gone 1 season and if Lebron were to come here it'd have been 2 seasons.. not a long time for memories to fade for one of arguably our most popular/dynamic players who was outspoken and challenged everyone around him publicly and delivered time and time again

Kobe is a tough act to follow, does Lebron have the cojones to try and do that

Kobe's legacy is already in the rear view mirror... People already discount it.

If LeBron came here and could be as good as he has been for a few more years, people will be saying he was better than Kobe...

They'd be wrong, but people are fickle and extremely short sighted when looking into the past.

Hard Pass... Honestly.. **** LeBron... Especially at 35 years old.. unless he'd be willing to take a two year deal with team option on second year at the MLE or at most around 8-10M/year.

We all know the reason why he's coming here is because he wants to get in good with the LA market so he can catapult some of his business opportunities to be ready for him when he retires.

Magic/Pelinka need to be smart here and not get giddy about bron showing interest. Worst thing they can do is blindly lock-in long-term money with him. Next year, LeBron will be the same age Kobe was when his Achilles went out. which snowballed into the rest of his body giving up on him the following 3 years.. When you factor in that LeBron also has more minutes played than Kobe did at this stage... then it's only a matter of "when" will his body start to break down not "if"...

This is why I say no multi-year commitments to Bron..otherwise we could have dejavu with another Steve Nash deal all over again... Lakes need to focus on bringing in PG and Westbrook next year.... If 35 yo Bron wants to come as well on a cheap short-term deal then so be it...

But Bron cannot be our Plan A.. Not A.. Not B .. Not C.. Not D.. Not E..

LeBron is not leaving Cleveland again, he's definitely not coming to LA. His legacy is already solidified the only thing that would tarnish it, is leaving his hometown not once but twice. He's already a top 5 player ever, he's not coming to LA to chase another ring.
I highly doubt next year we'll be in much better of a position than the Cavs will be. Especially with how strong the West is.
These thoughts are what make people think Lakers fans are delusional.

I dont think Lebron makes us a contender in 2018. He's already at the tail end of his prime by then.

If you don't want him because he's near the end of his career, that's one thing.

If it's because of some dumb rivalry with Kobe that never existed in the first place, you're doing it wrong.

I've always hated him from the get go... Dude needs 2 allstars Probably soon to be 3 to win, says he doesn't believe in that lol, dude changes teams when he loses, dude calls himself the KIng enough said, flops, gets away with too much S#%@, that's about it for now.

I wouldn't want Lebron on the team cause even if they win the title I don't think I would enjoy it just cause it seems so cheap to win by just getting a hired gun.

It would so much more enjoyable to watch the youngsters grow, stars that have never won anything join, and together achieve something that is against the odds. As a fan I've started to enjoy the journey a lot more than just the destination.

Championships are hard to win. I'll take them any way we can get them. Especially after the last five seasons.

LBJ still has 3-4 dominant years left.
If he were to come to the Lakers at the end of next year, I'd welcome him with open arms .
Assuming PG also comes, along with Ball , Ingram , Nance, and hopefully Randle, and with some hired gun ring chasers, we'd have a chance at a title.
And if we were to win it with our young guys and LBJ and PG, it would feel just as good as any title we have Won.

He's got 2 years, tops.

UNLESS he gets paired with some allstar talent that can not only take the pressure off, but carry the team while he's on the bench. Namely, a PG who can be his Magic or Pippen etc. (time will tell if Lonzo can be This Guy in the League) and probably a big man. And a Rick Fox-ish guy to keep it all together. And who knows, maybe some of the young guys will have breakout years. They're due for it. With all that, LeBron might be able to squeeze out another season at high levels. Age is the ultimate equalizer though (this is all if he hypothetically signs with the Lakers, I mean).

As for whether I'd want him on the team, I really don't care either way. I don't care who's signed as long as the FO doesn't overpay for them.

two of my favorite posters Michael Lucky and XBIX

Look Lebron coming to the Lakers is so many reasons more then just basketball. a lot of it is off the court and Lebron just really doesn't want to play for Dan Gilbert anymore it's nothing to do with the basketball he just doesn't want to play for him. so Lebron might come back to Cleveland as an owner but he's not playing for them anymore.

The Lakers got Kareem and when Kareem came to the Lakers a lot of it was off the court reasons and The OG DEEP can help me out with this. but Kareem was involved with a lot of social issues when he came to the Lakers and he wanted to be in L.A. he just wasn't feeling being in Milwawkee he was doing a lot of social activism with Jim Brown and Bill Russell. and I think that is what is going on with Lebron.

Lebron today isn't the same Lebron that went back to Cleveland. he's really very vocal about certain things. and being in L.A. is more about him wanting to be in an organization that supports that. he's talked about certain things look at the shop interview.

Magic is going to speak right to that. They'll bring Kareem in they will talk about all the social stuff.

But back to the basketball. he will be with Shaq in Laker greats. Kobe has his own mantle they'll all get statues. But Lebron is more of a Shaq Magic figure likes to be out there.

Kobe was more to his self wanting to be in O.C. I think when Kobe left Palasades it was a different Kobe the kid the rapper was gone and he was more private.

But getting back to Lebron he's a guy who's going to embrace L.A. brentwood. and he'll win championships in L.A. and be celebrated. Jeanie will have an incentive of him breaking Jordan's record as a Laker.

This is a Laker kind of signing.

from a pure basketball fit it's a great fit. you got Length young star in Brandon Ingram the player he was supposed to get in Andrew Wiggins. and a Lead young guard who's about Winning in Lonzo Ball. and that stretch five.

From Basketball the Lakers have great LeBron pieces in place. Brook Lopez is perfect for Lebron pick and pop center who can shoot threes. stretch five. best stretch five in the league. Brandon Ingram can be that defender that helps LeBron and can still score and shoot the three. and Lonzo is the lead point guard that Lebron wants to play with who will get him the ball in space. in his perfect scoring spots. Lebron has never played with a guard with Lonzo's ability. and I haven't even talked about Julius so Lakers have nice pieces.

When Shaq came to the Lakers everyone was like why would he leave Orlando with Penny Hardaway maybe the best young player in the league. and why would he leave Orlando who just made the finals in 1995. that team looks like they'll win four championships. all they gotta do is ride out the bulls. why would he leave that to play with the Lakers with nick van excel eddie jones and some kid kobe Bryant? you know why cause this kid can be great. and that's what we have with Lonzo he can be great. so Lebron see's that. and Lonzo isn't going to get jealous. he likes winning I can see us winning four championships.

All the Lebron haters get over it. I wanted us to win with Deangelo that was our squad Brandon Ingram the young guys Randle Ball. do it like the Warriors. but if you can get championships get them how you can get them and size em up like Kobe said when he got his first.

Magic doesn't make that Russell trade without knowing he's getting a superstar and I think that superstar was Lebron James. Lebron wants to play with Melo. so Lakers gotta figure out what they want to do there. but Lakers will be one of the teams meeting with him. I think this time a lot of the meeting will be centered around what Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram can do being a part of a championship core. Lebron will definitely like playing with two up and coming stars. and the Lakers always do this they are like the Yankees they get the stars.

I think this franchise has always wanted Lebron. it will be fun. I'll enjoy watching ESPN with all the free agency Lebron to the Lakers. Woj put that Lebron stuff out to the Lakers. and I think they are in play. what the Lakers need to do is make sure this year that they showcase their young players and make them look good so Lebron can see that these guys are ready to win.

Westbrook is staying in OKC super Max he'll get about 200 million bucks.
