Big men are easy to find but very expensive to sign. See Mozgov Laker contract.

They have 2 potential top 5 picks next year a ton of assets their sitting in an awesome position for the future..why people are saying it's not a good move because they won't win the title next year is so dumb and short sighted but as Knick fans I guess that's all we know in trying to build a team..

If Anthony Davis becomes available they'd be far and away the favorites to land him.

The Celtics are gonna be damn good for a long time and it sucks but there's no reason to try to spin it negatively ax Knick fans..it just makes us look bitter

I'm not sold on Hayward long term, their 1st option just got exposed in the playoffs, and they still lack a proper big. Of course they have great potential, nobody's denying that fact and it's looking really good for them, but there's a whole lot of work yet to be done before actually being able to contend.

They are already contenders since they made it to the conference finals. And, intriguingly, they actually played better without Thomas-- and they just upgraded at the SF position. At worst the Celtics are one of the deepest teams in the league now. Lebron is a year older.

Interesting...Marc Gasol spurned the Knicks. He was Phil Jackson's #1 target for his offense. Instead, he had to settle for Noah at a hefty price.

Now, the Memphic Grizzles who re-signed the highest paid point guard no one talks about, let Z-Bo go...are looking to fire sale.

Gasol is an EXCELLENT fit on the Celtics but I dunno how they fit him with Horford's gawdawful contract.

Why would Ainge want Melo? He wants people who move without the ball, pass and get out on the fast break. If you were alive during the great Boston Celtics teams of the 80's then you would understand why he wants no part of Melo.

Ainge didn't move salary before making an offer to Heyward. Now that he HAS to he's going to have to pay to do it imo. No competent GM is taking any of his salary w/o a pick attached.

Marcus Smart, Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley...I stand vindicated. Marcus Smart was such a great young player that's why Boston is ready to dump his butt. Avery Bradley, what an overrated player.

They need to clear cap space, they don't want to "dump" them. They have to in order to give Hayward his max.

I understand that. Maybe I'm not clear but they're trying to see who is stupid enough to take their garbage who in reality have NO VALUE.

Eh, I don't think they're garbage either. Bradley is a lockdown defender who can hit the three, kill in midrange, and attack the rim off cuts; Crowder is a damn good 3/D and smallball 4 player; and Smart is a good secondary creator and lockdown defender.

If Smart could just hover around 35% from 3 consistently, he'd be an amazing 3rd guard / spot starter. But that's easier said than done with the way defenses are guarding the 3PT line now.

He was at 34% his rookie year then went to JSmoove levels

So using TS% as the end all be all is wrong and you have to consider context.

you're the one not using context by comparing players heavily featured in an offense to a bench player

i'm comparing hayward and melo, and hayward has been better than melo for awhile now.
what do you consider a while?

I'd say he offially passed melo this past season

We all do. We should be pissed when we don't do things like they've done. Such as facilitating trades for assets.

Really it's all about Brown and Tatum to me. With these dudes coming off the bench, the offensive onslaught could be amazing. Assuming it's Smart they move and keep Bradley / Crowder

Jazz Reportedly Open to Gordon Hayward Sign-and-Trade with Celtics
TYLER CONWAY
JULY 5, 2017

The Utah Jazz reportedly are willing to facilitate a sign-and-trade of Gordon Hayward to the Boston Celtics, provided the All-Star forward agrees.

Tony Jones of the Salt Lake Tribune reported the news, though it's unclear if a sign-and-trade is something the Celtics or Hayward would consider.

Boston currently does not have enough cap space to sign Hayward to the four-year, $128 million contract he agreed to sign Tuesday. Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported the Celtics have been shopping Marcus Smart, Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley around the NBA to open the requisite amount of room.

The Jazz would be smart to try recouping any value they can out of Hayward. Smart, Crowder and Bradley are each quality NBA players who would at least slightly soften the blow of Utah losing its best player. Crowder would be a natural fit taking Hayward's small forward spot.

Hayward has no real reason to not facilitate a sign-and-trade. He's getting the same money and going to his desired destination regardless. There appears to be no ill will between Hayward and the Jazz, so helping them out should not be a problem whatsoever.

The Celtics are the only potential roadblock here. General manager Danny Ainge knows he has value in Crowder, Smart and Bradley. Ainge is probably fishing around the league right now for a protected first-round pick for one of the players—even with the league knowing he's going to dump one in the coming days.

Crowder is the logical player to leave because he and Hayward play the same position, but he's also the cheapest of the three in the immediate future. Smart and Bradley are set to command significant raises when they become free agents next summer.
