Fultz vs. Tatum: What do you think now?

Fultz is a spurty dynamic scorer, and serviceable starter at best. No alpha dog *snore*

I think now Paul Pierce is retired he's the perfect guy to bring in to coach Tatum and teach him all his tricks and moves.

Fultz hasn't been able to finish at the rim in summer league the way he did in college. Not a good look considering the athleticism looks to be overrated as some here predicted before the draft. The dude can shoot & score, no doubt. Great spin & hesitation moves -- underrated passer from what I've seen in these first two games.

But without that ability to finish at the rim he's not going to be nearly as dynamic a scorer as projected. Not to mention his dribble is sloppy so he's going to be a turnover machine when he plays against real NBA players every night.

And then the defense. It's terrible & he doesn't even look like he's giving effort most of the time on that end of the floor.

Glad he have Tatum & the Laker pick.

Their moves, athleticism and position played don't seem all that similar.

Fultz has definitely tweaked his jumper some. Its slower and lower than before, it almost looks like Kevin Martin's on some angles. As of right now it seems to be money, all of his set shots arent even hitting rim. Wonder if he will be able to get it off consistently against legit NBA defenders though. But right now, Philly fans have to be happy with that jumper.

Like I've said multiple times already, Fultz & Tatum are both going to be All Stars in this league....but Tatum offers skills at 6'8 that are hard to come by. Guys like Tatum do not grow on trees. He plays like an NBA vet, yet he is only 19 years old. He is already better than Jaylen Brown, and Jaylen Brown is really good.

Tatum can score every which way. He can pass. He can dribble well for his size...he has the frame to get much stronger which in time will enable him to bully players down low.
I think Tatum has a chance to be the best player from this draft class, and a Top 10 player in the league.
Fultz also has Top 10 potential. I just don't think Danny saw any separation between the two hence the trade to acquire another asset in addition to getting the player he wanted.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Tatum in a few areas:

1. Explosion - not an elite athlete, but he can elevate at the rim
2. Confidence - his side-step 3 was so calm & casual - has the look of a guy who believes every shot will fall, which is huge IMO
3. First step - I want to see it vs. actual NBA players but he is getting by his man in the USL with relative ease off the bounce

EDIT - the guy who everyone is going to kick themselves about in retrospect is Mitchell. He's the best athlete among all the guards (Fox included), already an NBA-caliber defender, and his shot has come SO far from his HS days. Good kid too and works his a$$ off. Jazz fans are sad about Hayward but Mitchell is a keeper.

Does everybody appreciate what we are seeing? We are witnessing the budding career of a superstar. Tatum is already the best scoring young wing in the NBA. After Giannis he is already the best young prospect at forward (excludes established stars from 2011 draft (Klay and Kawai draft and earlier ). Danny has finally nailed a Brooklyn pick - he hit a home run here. The future is secure.

Compared to a rookie Paul Pierce his footwork and shooting touch is superior and he is 2 years younger. He isn't as physical as 21 yo Paul and I don't think his ball handling and passing are at Pierce's rookie level yet. He is better defensively than I thought but I think he will struggle against the elite bigger wings like Leonard and Lebron types. I don't think he can play the 2 like Pierce did as a rookie. The big question is whether he can round out the rest of his game like Paul or will he remain a Carmel type -( Honestly, either answer is freaking awesome )

Many will accuse me of overreacting and it's true SL stars outnumber real stars 10 to 1. We'll know for sure in November when training camp starts .... but I've seen enough already. And I am really excited.

BTW - I agree with post above about Mitchell - he belonged in top 10 tier of top players. Has a lot of Chauncey Billups in his game.

Even sliced bread is super impressed with Tatum, and it really doesn't get more arrogant and hard to please than sliced bread.

Upon review -- a number of his Spurs highlights would be harder in real games. There was that one mid-range ISO score where another defender just kept his back to Tatum rather than helping. In a real game, that might have turned into a quick double-team he had to pass out of.

Also, those swooping straight-line layups might be harder against good rim protectors. Has he shown enough wiggle on his drives to overcome that?

This is why I kept posting about Tatum. I couldn't understand the Josh Jackson media stuff. Tatum is miles better. Somehow a polished 19 year old has a lower ceiling than a raw 20 year old? Made no sense. Thank you PHX!

Right.

On the drives I'm asking whether he's ever shown what's needed up to this point in his career, or whether solving the potential/eventual problem will require learning new moves.

On the passes I'm just assuming he'll need to learn it in the pros.

I think it was obvious that Tatum would have the earliest impact of Fultz, Tatum and Jackson. He was more polished on the offensive end of the floor and could be hidden on the defensive side. But it's year 3 and on which is what typically you look for in these young kids and I think Fultz has a higher ceiling than the others it's just does he have the work ethic to reach his potential.
