I'm not sure why Bradley wouldn't be the guy. Nothing personal, but next summer we're not going to pay IT, Bradley, and Smart. I'd put money on it.

The Knicks, among other teams, were also contacted by the Boston Celtics about a potential Marcus Smart trade earlier this week, sources said. The Knicks' interest in Smart is unclear at this point, but you can assume the Celtics would want someone like Willy Hernangomez and/or a pick back in a trade. If so, that would be a steep price for a rebuilding team such as the Knicks to pay.

Bradley to NOP for first round picks. Then when they stink, they can have their picks back in trade.

That's been a worthwhile move in the past.

Picks as in plural? I can only hope Demps is that silly.

Not sure I want to help their situation anyways. I don't buy the AD/Cousins duo working out.

Yeah tough to figure, since one non-lotto pick is pretty bad return for Bradley IMO.

Thinking again the best answer is a reverse protected pick, give Boston something like #6-14 or it rolls over.

It is a bad return but Ainge has limited leverage at best. I'm not smart enough with the cap minutiae, but if it can be done without the 3 guys then Im not sure what the hold up is.

The leverage thing is overstated IMO. It's one thing if a team has to make a deal and has only 1 or 2 teams to work with because of an impending FA or whatnot. But he has guys at three position, different contract lengths, values etc that are all desirable players.

It's like the Warriors trading Bogut, people said 'the league can blackball them, prevent the Durant deal,' and it lasts one day. Dallas stepped up and took him for nothing when GS 100% had to make a deal.

Same here, Boston has valuable assets and the whole league to work with. They should do fine.

They'd love Crowder. Fills a position of need after Gay leaves. They're getting another vet alongside ZBo and GHill on a very good contract. Clears a bit of a logjam with their bigs.

Jae would be so piiiiissed. He hates being on a rebuilding/losing team.

Plus, the Celtics have picks to sweeten it if necessary. The Kings do have other big guys.

If Favors is more desirable than whatever pick Crowder can fetch, the Celtics can get him using a triple sign and trade.

This would be the sequence of moves, from Boston's perspective.

1. Renounce Young, Green, and Jerebko
2. Waive Mickey and Jackson (non-guaranteed)
3. Trade Favors for top 55 pick into cap space.
4. S&T Olynyk (bird), Jerebko (cap), and Crowder for Hayward.*

*Total must equal $24 M

How valuable is Favors to you? Just curious, I don't watch the Jazz much

The Celtics have shopped point guard Marcus Smart around the NBA to clear cap room to sign Gordon Hayward, and the Knicks have interest, according to an NBA source.
According to the source, the Knicks are looking into trade options to fill the cap space they have – about $15 million once they renounce the cap hold on Derrick Rose. Smart makes just $4.5 million this season and then becomes a restricted free agent in 2018 (...)
It’s unclear what kind of asset Boston is seeking in return for Smart

2 different articles from NY (apparently from 2 different sources) linking Smart to the Knicks.

Could they do that? I thought they were up against the cap with the Jrue signing. I wouldn't mind considering a swap of AB for Ajinca,

Ajinca has his limitations but he's been a top-15 center per real plus minus each of the last 4 years and his career per-36 line is

14.3 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 1.7 BPG, 50% FG%, 55% TS%, .093 WS/48

For $4.9M this year and $5.3M next year, it feels like a pretty good contract for a back up center with the size to defend guys who give Horford trouble.

Smart’s defense and 3-point shooting are deemed better than his playmaking abilities, so he doesn’t fall into the category of being the veteran point-guard mentor for French lottery pick Frank Ntilikina.

lol what'd they happen to catch that one game against Cleveland in the ECF?

If you're trying to acquire Marcus Smart so that he can chuck 3s, you're doing it wrong.
