Yeah I just could have sworn that he had said they had elected to stretch the cap for extra space. Maybe that was just speculation by someone else.

Totally fine if ownership wants to pay it out over 5 years, but I stand by my point that it is 100% pointless to stretch the cap. Nothing that can reasonably be done with that space is even close to worth having that on the books for 5 seasons.

Doesn't it depend upon who if anyone they are trying to sign or trade for now? They know and we're guessing so I won't second guess them.

I don't see a single player worth it. We aren't anywhere near contending, so why mortgage future money? The remaining free agents either don't fit our timeline whatsoever or they are worth less than our current cap space so we shouldn't need more.

And after the way this offseason has gone, I think some second guessing is deserved. The moves so far are defensible, but that doesn't make them good ones.

They need a small forward how about Thad Young to Orlando for Terrence Ross and CJ Watson? Release Watson his guarantee is $1 million, Pacers save $4 million. Sit back and wait to see if someone makes a trade and needs a team to take a contract and get paid off.

Is it legal to trade Thad for Olynyk s&t (4/48) and Crowder (7 per)? It would save Boston nearly $6m. If not Crowder sub Bradley or Smart.

Olynyk at $12 per isn't a bad deal at all. And he would be moveable should Sabonis or Leaf make him expendable.

NVM... My math is off. Regardless, we could still offer Thad for Crowder + enough salary filler to create 4- 5 m in cap space for Boston.

I don't think Boston is trying to take that much salary back, they have renounced Kelly and Young makes more than Crowder so I don't see a fit there. I would gladly take Smart off their hands for a couple 2nd rounders though :D

Fair enough. Just thought they might like to round out the 4 spot. Thad seems to fit and he's cheap.

Sign me up on the Smart idea.

I don't see the Pacers dealing with Boston anytime soon. I don't want Olynyk unless it's dirt cheep, 2 yrs $4-5 million. Crowder and Bradley for Thad would be nice, they could flip Bradley to an number of teams for a #1 pick even though he's a 1yr deal. It doesn't save the Celtics money but it gets them PF. They'd have to kick more players in to get saving have to be Smart they'd be wanting #1 picks with Thad so I can't see that happening.

I'd rather do the sign and trade of CJ to the TWolves and get Aldrige and a pick or just try to bring back CJ on a friendly deal say 3yr $8 million per with raises.

Why not do both?

Just something about Crowder I really like besides his 3/24 contract. Word is he despised the Boston crowd after they chanted Gordon's name. I'm sure Jae is extremely pissed now that they've just agreed to give GH $32m per. Not to mention drafting back-2-back SFs with top-3 picks.

Wherever he ends up his first encounter with Boston should be interesting.

I'd take Crowder but since they have to trade someone to finalize the deal with Hayward, I'm not giving them fair value for him. 2 2nds 2021 and 2022.

That's actually not awful. I thought it would be a lot worse than that.

In all honesty, it really isn't. The Heat didn't make out too poorly, I think Olynyk is a more reasonable player to complement their frontcourt with Bam and Whiteside than hours, filled with stretch, jump-shooting big men who already struggle as a group to rebound and play low post defense.

I'm just not a fan of Olynyk as a player, personally.

Long term I think the Pacers will be better for not getting Olynyk. Both Leaf and Sabonis look to me like they have a higher ceilings. With Olynyk a Pacers a couple years out I could see him being a lesser player than both Leaf and Sabonis, being behind them on the depth chart with the result that his value damaged. The other alternative the two younger guys don't get developed to their best potential. With Olynyk I think we would be a better team this year. Not sure that matters that much.
