2017 Available free agents

Post#1 » by kamaze » Wed Jul 5, 2017 4:59 am

Wanted to make a thread showing the players still available. Also signings accross the league can be posted here.

JayMychal Green
Stretch power forward that Memphis may or may not bring back according to how much it costs. They let Z. Randolph go so they have some more $ to spend. He's a restricted free agent the Nets could get.

Tim Hardaway Jr
Another shooting guard? I know but the team is reported to be interested in him.
Dallas, Spurs, Lakers are teams he could go to. Atlanta could bring him back but they traded away Dwight Howard and let Milsap go it looks like they're rebuilding.

The Cavs signed Jose Calderon to a 1 year vet minimum deal.

He's booty but better than a donut I guess.
I can't see a team signing Deron after going 0fer in the finals.

As for as bargain signings go, I can definitely see us making an offer to Tyler Zeller, Aaron Baynes, Hibbert, Muscala, Ilyasova, Olynyk, Humphries, McGee and Reed. Bigs such these are good value. Colangelo made a mistake there that Marks could benefit from.

In terms of veterans, Sefolosha, Vince Carter, T. Evans all are still productive and good professionals. Less minutes, less risk of injury. I think we can still pursue free agents as we wait for a decision on Washington.

Nikola Mirotic isn't that good but makes a lot of sense to spell RHJ, OTOH, why not just buyout Vezenkov and bring him over?

The point of a late pick draft and stash is to buy low on a guy, hope he develops nicely, then bring him over in 2 years on a team friendly deal. If we didn't plan on stashing him, then why didn't we draft a more nba ready player?

Well, we don't know how good he is right now. How much is Mirotic better than him? Is he worth so much money?

I was just thinking Vezenkov and Mirotic are kinda similar. Stretch fours. Vezenkov might be the better shooter right now?

We do know how good he is right now. That's why you scout players.... And seriously, I don't think you understand the concept of a draft and stash. These guys have no immediate future with the team. There's no way he's coming over next year. Idk why this is being discussed.

Vezenkov is a prospect who plays overseas and is 2 years away from making an impact on an nba floor. He is not an not yet an NBA player, and that's even assuming he ever grows into one. Mitotic is a 35% shooter with 200+ nba games under his belt, and posted a career per of 16 so far.

You're advocating to sign a raw player at the 57th pick over a player who's main skill is 3 point shooting. You can't even bring Vezenkov over unless you know for a fact hell get consistent minutes in the rotation to help his development. And if you're about to argue in favor of giving a raw prospect taken with the 57th pick major minutes, then honestly I wouldn't even justify that with a response.

Unfortunately, almost all the decent remaining free agents are restricted and we have to wait atleast 2 days for the matching process. This off-season may never end.

One problem is that it's not a sure thing that Mirotic would get major minutes here. If RHJ works out well at the 4, Booker and Acy are still around, there might not be much minutes left for him. He would be costly as an RFA, 10+ for sure. And if it's a long term deal, anything more than 2 years, it'd be even harder to get Vezenkov to come and play consistent minutes then.

There are a lot of questions marks on Mirotic. Can he play center or small forward? (probably not) Can he shoot consistently? (he hasn't been) Can he play well off the bench? (he didn't) Can he play defense? (probably not) How much upside does he have? (probably not much) Can he do much besides shooting? (not too much) Or we sign him to start and have RHJ come off the bench? (not a big fan of this idea)

Getting a stretch big that can play better D than JHam would still make a lot of sense. (funny how JHam was supposed to be the best defender of the bench, the other guys being Vasquez, SKil, Bogs and Scola)

We won't know how good Aleks is in the NBA until he plays in the NBA. It's not like he's 17 or anything. It might be better to have him grow with the core? We know for sure tho, that he'd cost a lot less and we could use that cap to get picks.

Of course, if Marks thinks he is terrible now and won't contribute at all to a 20wins team, then sure, wait and see, by all means.

i think I rather ilyasova as our stretch 4, he's a good offensive rebounder too. I would also welcome Kardashian, I mean Humphries , he can make that corner 3 now. My dream would be JaMychal Green.

As for wings, I would take any of Thabo, James Johnson, CJ Miles, or Tony Allen.

I never made an argument for Mitotic. You're the one who randomly brought Mitotic into the conversation.

Comparing a raw player, who was the 57 the pick to a player about to hit his prime, and posted an abover average PER so far in his nba career is asinine.

I don't know what you're even ranting about. You're arguing against Niko when the point that I'm trying to make is that the nets aren't bringing over their draft and stash after 3 weeks.

Vezenkov isn't even on our SL roster.........

And you think he's an option to join the nba team?

Has THJr signed yet? Maybe I just happened to watch all of the games in which he balled out for ATL this year but I'm shocked that a team hasn't come out and at least signed him to a deal of 4yr/$52mil.

He's a proven offensive scorer and I think he can be pushed to improve his defense.

So... is everyone still against Shabazz? I know his defense is um... non-existent, but he'd likely come cheap and I'm confident the Nets could help him develop...

Na, Mirotic was the starting point of the conversation. I was saying, it makes a lot of sense to get a stretch big and he's perhap the best/youngest/most available. However, there's a lot of questions in terms of fit and roster. That brought up the question of, if we're gonna sign him, wouldn't getting Vezenkov to come over be a better option if Marks thinks he can defend OK in this league?

Mirotic would surely be the better player, but he will also be much more expensive and might be under-utilized.

The "stash" label and the fact that he isn't on the SL roster doesn't mean much if the situation calls for it. I'm not an expert on him and I suppose you aren't as well. This would be a decision Marks makes.

I'm fine with him, as long as it's not too expensive. Instant offense off the bench.

You're trying to jam puzzle pieces into places they don't fit. Vezenkov isn't an option because he's a raw talent they want to develop. They don't see any immediate value with him. Nor did they want immediate value from the 57th pick. There were plenty of more nba ready talent available with the 57th pick the nets could've drafted. Guys like Wiley or Senglin. They took Vezenkov for a reason and it was because they wanted to have a draft and stash product.

Vezenkov not being on the SL roster is telling. It proves the nets don't have any plans to bring him over. It directly applys to the situation. Its not a decision for Marks to make. Its one he already made before he made the draft selection.

Why are we having this conversation....He was the 3rd to last pick

Whats everyones take on Tyreke Evans? Worth a shot? He kind of fits our mold of versatile ball handler who can play multiple positions.
