yeah I mean the side bar to this is that Marks is screwing teams over with these RFA pushes. I knew Portland would regret matching last year
is he thought?
Blazers were already in the tax before crabbe signing.
The heat have max cap space
The wizards are already over the cap and will be over the tax with a wall extensin.
I would understand this if a team was like 15M under the cap and we made them max their guy to kill their cap and put them well over. but nothing like that happened
Owners probably don't think like that. A team already in the tax now adds $18 million+ a season deeper into the tax. Yikes lol.
that kind of makes it worse thought right?
you arent "tying up other teams caps" because they were already over the cap.
you've now have potentially ticked off the owners of other teams.
i dont see the benefit if thats the straregy... i dont think its the strategy

12.5M per is right about the limits of where id want him. he is a good player and thats a good deal but its not a huge deal we didnt get him.
i just hope we dont sign green or simmons or something like that

Now it's thew time to swoop in and get James Johnson, but only if we miss out on Porter. i wouldn't of been mad if we signed Olynk for that contract though, thats a reasonable deal @ Prok.
Edit: Nevermind, JJ is back with the HEAT on a 4 year deal.

Johnson looks like he's about to resign with Miami for 4 years. I don't think there's much left in FA for us other than Porter. Maybe Simmons or Green since Marks has familiarity with and their teams but more likely I think he'd take on a salary dump or two with an asset attached. Like Crabbe + 2018 first. Or something like that.

and there is nothing wrong with that... we added Russell. thats the biggest move we made whether we end up with porter or not.
honestly if porter dosnt get matched or we dont max KCP then we are better off with cap space then these 12-16M per year deals to guys like simmons or green who you hope you havent seen the best of and arent anything more then low level role guys

How long til we throw a 4/$88 at KCP? That's my guess for his offer. Detroit would have to move one of Morris, Ish or Marjanovic just to match at that point.

6 days... right after the wiz match id assume?
We dodged a bullet on porter.
hopefully we dodge bullets on Green, simmons, and KCP. i could have talked myself into porter. i can probably talk myself into not liking KCP offer instead of despising it. would flat out be enraged with a simmons or green deal north of 10 million.
Roll the cap over. sign 1 year deals. look for more trades.
no need to give this low level role guys big money

I was more saying it rhetorically to restart some KCP discussion, but afaik Washington still has to match by 11:59pm on Saturday, they can just extend the tie-up of our cap for 4 extra days with technicalities on all the physicals and such.
So in essence they make the official call Saturday night and therefore once that happens we can again pursue free agents, we just cannot officially ink them til the 12th.

Well at least it's not full max, amirite lol?
Detroit hardcapped themselves. Anything over $16 mill starting salary and they can't match without moving the salary to do so.
I meant 4/86 actually, because that is pretty much $20 million in first year salary, meaning they'd have to move one of the 3 of either valuable players they don't want to move, or a tough contract to move without adding incentive.
Pretty sure SVG waved the white flag on KCP.
I have to read up on the new CBA, on frontloaded deals and the such, it's possible there's something where we can make the 1st year a lot more and actually have it where it's "only" maybe 4/78 or the such and still means they have to move a contract to match or lose him.

Gotcha.
To be honest im really kind of blah at this point. once a S&T didnt happen it was over on porter. and really free agency for me has been more hoping marks doesnt land us a crabbbe/bazemore type player/deal then it has been hoping we sign someone... keep avoiding the land mines.
my order of preference at this point is:
-No Deals!
-1 year deals under 10M per
-KCP on a near max/max (dont like it be lesser of some evils)
-Green on 10-14M per (hate it but not the worst)
-Simmons on 10-14M per (worst case scenario)
with roberson gone and porter about to be matched we avoided some potential land mines. I jsut really dread seeing a tweet saying "simmosn to nets on 4/48 million deal"
He is 28... so in his prime but no longer a prospect. coming off 2 bad season on the spurs where typically everything turns to gold.
i just hate the idea of giving big money to a guy based on summer league and a 4 game playoff blowout sweep.

Really? I dont think a 4 year 88 mill is that bad compared to what we were about to give Otto.
However, from my understanding we could offer 4/82 mill and they still wouldnt be able to match without getting rid of one of those guys, unless they plan on giving away Stanley Johnson or Luke Kenard + Ellenson for free.
IMO KCP on 4/82 is a lot better than Otto on 4/106

Very much dislike the idea of KCP and hate him on full max. 4/75 to 4/86 isn't the end of the world I guess though. He's a guy I can see a S&T tbh.
Still like Green at no more then about $12 a year, no more than 3 years.

26M vs 22M. i mean honestly not a huge difference. it still has the same effect after the 18-19 season when our own guys will be RFAs.
certainly more at play for detroit then the wiz. the offer they made to galloway mucked up the waters a bit making it more then just an easy match.

And he can shoot the three and split the backup C role with Allen perfectly.

Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread II
Don't think the Player's Union will be all that happy if Washington drags this out 6 days when there are so many other free agents who could receive some of Brooklyn's once again found cap and also the other dominoes that won't fall until Porter is matched.
Stern would have stepped in behind the scenes and let it be known to Washington once you make your call, make it snappy. I don't trust Silver to though, he seems like a pussy.
