Nobody who's seen Leonard play the last two seasons would say this. He plays like he has absolutely zero love for the game of basketball. He belongs on a g league roster, if that. Blazers fans were contemplating just stretching him not too long ago

And what makes you think that Cleveland acquiring Melo would close the gap with the Warriors? Melo seems kind of redundant if he went to the Cavs. How the heck is Melo's slow butt going to cover all those 3 point shooters, KD charging down the lane or box out Draymond Green?
It wouldn't. Melo won't be a difference maker. But is Cleveland just supposed to stand still? They only pushed it to a game 5 and the Warriors will build on their chemistry even more.
The point of my post is that GH to Boston and Melo to Hou makes Cleveland panic because their options are drying up, not that they'll seriously be able to contend anyway, but I'm sure they'll have to try something.
I don't know what Cleveland should do because having Lebron who can leave after this season makes it very complicated. They need to find diamonds in the rough, but in order to do that you need a good GM and scouting staff along with a lot of luck. There is no Pat Riley in Cleveland, plus Lebron runs things. They could really shake things up and trade Kyrie. But really their only chance to compete with the Warriors would have been to find someone like Draymond Green, or take a chance on a young player who teams have given up on such as Hassan Whiteside. They could look to Europe or make a great trade like Portland did last season when they picked up Nurkic.
Melo will make them worse because he will just get in the way and piss Lebron off with his crappy D.

Leonard will solidify the bench all right. Hell, he might never leave it

Can the Cavs get Melo without giving up Love...would they be willing to give up more than a 1st rd pick in such a deal?
If we did get Love- what and who could we flip him to? I got to think someone would be willing to give up a pick and change for him, I'd take a pick, a young player, and I'd take on a bad contract in exchange for flipping Love.
If we can somehow get 2 first-round picks after dealing Melo and then maybe KOQ, that would be amazing. To have three first-round picks next season would be perfect. It would be just enough time to build something so KP does not leave.

They will also ignore the fact that Melo could not guide this team to even a playoff spot in arguably one of the worst conferences in NBA history.

I'm not saying getting Melo is a good idea but what else can they do? No way Lebron moves Kyrie. That dude is clutch since Lebron likes to disappear in the 4th. You're right, Lebron runs things, but Lebron is going to want a name. He's not going to take a flyer on some unknown who will need time to develop. Melo won't work out or fix things, but he is a name. And Lebron makes everyone way better, who knows how Melo would look playing next to him. Let Lebron think that if it means taking Melo off our hands.
Also, the Cavs are capped out. They have few options this summer and next, whether Lebron is there or not, so, I would think, that Lebron thinks it's in his best interests to get his friend on the team for one last run in Cleveland before regrouping with Wade and possibly Melo as well
