From Hawks Fansided blog few months back:

"It would not be surprising to see a team give him an offer in the neighborhood of four years/$75 million, the same figure that Allen Crabbe drew this past summer. That number is a bit high but could be a better value than the contract that the Hawks gave to Kent Bazemore (four years/$70 million) before this season.

Realistically, Hardaway Jr.’s value is probably closer to the four years/$60-$68 million, for an average annual value of $15-$17 million. That would be a good number for the Hawks given that he is just now entering his prime at age 25."

Random but did the Wizards match the Nets offer of Otto Porter yet?

Your not forced to trade him? You could slide him over to the 3 once Melo is out the picture, and a productive 2-way player on a decent contract is definitely worth a first rounder. I mean look at the previous post with people saying Celtics should get a first for Smart/Crowder/Bradley but they technically HAVE to trade for it. I could see a team like the Spurs, Clippers trading for him.

Would any team believe that they would need to trade a 1st rounder for Lee after they gave Hardaway that deal with a trade kicker? Even the Hawks - a good organization - were thinking $45M for THJ.

Yes, a playoff team definitely would. You're not getting a lotto pick but a future first or late first rounder. The Hardaway deal is inflated but not as bad as everyone is making it seem. I don't believe the smokescreen of Atlanta was going to pay "around 45 mill" When they gave bazemore basically the same contract as THJR.

Players tend to not miss in highlights

Check the stats for those games. He wasn't missing many. He definitely has a clutch factor to him. Did it too with the Knicks which is why people still blame him for ruining the tank a couple of seasons ago. Tim has improved guys.

Not gonna lie, those were some pretty nice games.

It is a highlight reel though. And also, those are a select few games out of the season. But, 3 things I want to mention:

1. I like that he did that against big teams
2. I like that he was attacking the rim and not just settling for jumpers when he had a chance to shoot
3. He has to become CONSISTENT at having games like those EFFICIENTLY. A lot of players have the skill to drop 30, but doing it consistently is what young players usually can't do.

I'll say this, different situations obviously, but if the nets made this offer they'd be praised

Yes it is true that Hardaway's contract translates to a 4/40 contract in the old CBA. Which is essentially double the mid-level. It is a huge overpay. It is a contract that you pay to your third best player essentially. Can Hardaway be the third best player on a winning team? I highly doubt. His value should be more around the mid-level. He is getting double what he should.

I also agree the Isiah angle here. Reminds a lot like Isiah contracts. You overpay who should be your fifth and sixth best players before even having your top two-three in place. That is a recipe for a typical Knicks team. Hardaway is your next JR Smith or Crawford if you will. And we will expect him to be our second best scorer for the next four years. It always works great as our past shows. NOT.

He's an RFA, those will appear to be overpays 100% of the time if the signing team is legitimately trying to acquire him.

Would have rather spent less money on a veteran mentor like Gerald Henderson and Brandon Rush and gave Dotson minutes behind Lee.

Dotson will probably be as good as Hardaway soon. Dotson probably already a better shooter than THJr right now.

"The Knicks have Derrick Rose's Bird Rights, so they can exceed the salary cap to re-sign him next summer if they choose. This is significant because it would allow the Knicks to use most of their cap space to sign free agents in the summer of 2017 and then also re-sign Rose. The Knicks can also sign Rose to a three-year extension before 6/30/2017 because he has been under the same contract for more than three years." Ian Begley last year

Is this true?

They have to renounce Rose to make this contract fit.

Right, following the precedent. Bazemore got 4/$70, Crabbe got 4/$75, and Carroll got 4/$60. One (carroll) is an albatross that the Raptors would have to attach assets with to unload. Crabbe has been mentioned in a number of rumors because they are trying to unload his and Harkless' salary, and I don't think you'll find a single person in the league who says that's even an above average contract. Bazemore really under performed this past season and will have to play at a much higher level to even begin justifying that number. Well done Mills, you've followed the precedent alright.

That's somewhat true. RFA always get overpaid in offer sheets.

I think you could of pried him away at 14 per

Watch them match now

At least we're throwing money at a young player that still has more years to develop rather than throwing money at declining talent.
