Yeah, especially given that we've plugged more holes on the roster this off-season before deals and signings can even be made official than we have during the past four seasons combined.

Question for our resident cap experts:

According to the Detroit News, because of their signing of Langston Galloway, the Pistons will have to shed $7 million in salary to be able to afford to match a max offer sheet to KCP (if he's offered one). Would we be able to use our trade exception from the CP3 deal to trade for Boban Marjanovic?

The Clippers' interest in Willie Reed signals that they're looking to add a backup big, but Boban could be another option if we can make it work. He was always fun to watch on the Spurs.

Detroit is hard capped because they gave Galloway the full taxpayer MLE. We are also hard capped, both at $125 mil. So while we could use our TPE to take in Boban, it really doesnt make any sense for how we play, not to mention we still need flexibility to fill out the rest of the roster, as wed only have around ~$2M left, depending on how we proceed with signing the rookies (2-way or min deal).
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Could have been a lot worse. I will remain cautiously optimistic on Teodosic and Gallo.

Must still be pointed out for future reference, though, that we pretty much traded JJ, Jamal, and Diamond for Gallo, when we could have got Melo for that instead and still kept CP3
I root for players always, organizations sometimes.

I don't know how I'm ever going to forgive the Clippers' new front office.

I was thinking the exact same thing except including a 2018 First Round Pick swap option for us since we would be doing them a big favor and Boban is overpaid even in this market.

Gay to San Antonio

Post#452 » by Ranma » Fri Jul 7, 2017 12:18 am

I'm not against the Gallinari signing, but this is what I had in mind with regards to my preference in signing Gay to a lower monetary commitment. The Spurs made out with a very good deal with little risk, in my opinion.

Factoring in the Patty Mills contract and now Rudy Gay two-year $17.2M pact has the Spurs with $94.5M in salary. San Antonio has free agents Pau Gasol, Jonathon Simmons (restricted) and Manu Ginobili still on the board.

With Miami signing Olynyk, bringing back James Johnson and trading for a center from Dallas (AJ Hammons), I'm guessing this means Willie Reed is the odd man out?

with the signing of Milos, the right move should be to move Beverly to 2 guard, and move Rivers back to the bench ( actually, the best move is to move him to another team)

MIlos Teodosic -Austin RIvers - Juwan Evans - DeAndre Liggins
Patrick Beverlyv- Lou Williams - Sindarius Thornwell
Danilo Gallinari - Sam Dekker - Wesley Johnson
Blake Griffin - Brice Johnson - Kyle Wiltjer
DeAndre Jordan - Montrezl Harrell

I think I agree with a previous report that DeAndre Liggins and Kyle Wiljer will be cut to make room for a better FA player. I can't imagine going into the season with 15 guaranteed contracts, and 7 guards. my guess is that we cut the two mentioned, and sign a free agent big. perhaps a stretch big. I suppose Wes resigning was a trade bait from the beginning too. maybe Wes + the mentioned two for something useful?

for me personally tho, is to trade Austin or Lou, but Lou seems more important for the bench scoring. I really want to see what Juwan and Sindarius has to offer.
ehhhhh f it.

Not sure about the fit of Gay in the Spurs system, not to mention with Aldridge. However, hard to argue based on the price.

Looks like we were in the mix for Avery Bradley:

Why are they trading Avery Bradley?

They have to create cap room for Hayward's contract and they weren't going to be able to afford to re-sign Bradley anyway. Bradley is a UFA next summer and he's going to get paid.

There doesn't seem to be any market at all for KCP. If he doesn't get an offer sheet and Detroit makes him unrestricted, I'm starting to wonder if he could be had for cheap on a short-term prove-it contract. Of course, knowing the Nets, they'll probably throw some insane offer sheet at him and then be stuck with him for way more than he's worth.

Now I'm actually interested in how we got beat out for Avery Bradley.

And I'm only interested in doing it to hate on Doc.
If Jerry suggested that we don't do the deal, it's fine.
