Excuses.
That team was a top eastern team with top chemistry and top coaching, and while retooling and chasing for a ring, inserted a flawed guard into its rotation, which they originally saw a better fit than a rookie.
The Hawks were way more solid with DeMarre Carroll playing both ends doing the dirty work, and winning 60 games. Four of their guards back then worked their ass off on defense (Carroll, Korver, Sefolosha and Bazemore).
Since they lost some of them, they lost their chemistry on defense, and now their core has fallen apart.
Hawks ain't gonna match that offer, make no mistake about it. To match such amount would set their rebuilding back for years.
The irony is that the Knicks are actually in a similar situation than the Hawks. This is a horrible signing for them.
One thing that's always underrated when it comes to evaluating players. Some players can do great in a big market, some won't.
Lin did fantastic in NY, and yet they didn't match a lesser offer, than what they are now offering Hardaway.
Hardaway was doing terrible in NY under the Garden lights. He was clueless on D, didn't rebound, didn't pass, didn't shoot properly. He was JR Smith with less talent and no fun. He needed to work in a quieter organization, with good coaching and authority.
He's not going to improve back in NY.
This organization is clueless. At least, this shows all the mofers dudes like sas who were saying Phil didn't care, that not only he cared, but he was in control. So much for trying to fit "today's NBA". In today's NBA, you need to guard the three pt line!!!
100%. Horrible signing.
Can we ever get a break from incompetence?

I can't see the Rox trading EG. He can play beside either CP3 or Harden, especially with Lou now gone. They can go small for stretches with Harden at SF too.
Between the Rockets and Cavs I think EG is probably the only play they would want. With a soft eastern conference the Knicks may be trying to make the playoffs still. EG fits someone Hornecek would run with. As skilled as Kevin Love is I don't think Knicks are investing in bad knees anymore,

Because Hawks would match on 3.
Also, his age is fine for a 4 year deal.
Year 1: 25
Year 2: 26
Year 3: 27
Year 4: 28
He can sign one more long contract at 29. If it's for 4 years again, he would play most of that final season at the age of 32 until he turns 33 on March of 2025.

I don't like Hardaway because he's not aggressive. He's kinda a spot up shooter, kinda a slasher, but doesn't do anything great. Kind of frustrating to watch with his physical gifts.

If Atlanta don't match it, and they're not going to do it, I swear I'm done for this team the next 2 years.
Blame whoever you want: players, coach, GM, Dolan or even the media, but the rest of the league is laughing at this contract while half of our fanbase seems to be happy with it. Maybe at the end the Organization is giving us what we really want, an eternal mediocrity.

That is the old version of Hardaway Jr
New version of my Hardaway Jr isn't just a spot up shooter. He can shoot off the dribble now, there is video of it.
He also aggressively goes to the rim now, there is a lot of video of that too.
Oh, and his physical gifts? Dude hit the gym HARD last summer and gained definition, basically transformed his body. I am pretty sure even Mike Been commented on it during an MSG broadcast of a Knicks-Hawks game.
He may not be great, but we are not paying him to be great. We are paying him to be good, like Evan Fournier-good.

Timmy will help the tank until the last two games, screwing us out of Porter and Doncic.

In the NBA, "great" can cost you anywhere from $30 million a year like Mike Convey to $40 million a year like Stephen Curry.
"Good" will cost you between $17 and $18 million a year, like Evan Fournier and Tim Hardaway Jr.

I watch him a few times last season. But the money...were talking George Hill money. You could have kept Holiday for a 1/3rd of this. Lets not forget our starting SG is Courtney Lee. We could have done Vince Carter for a short deal and kept flexibility for a rotation player. We have a lot of young ones.

I'm still in disbelief. Can't believe how short-sighted a move we dared. Do they actually think another cap spike is coming soon? did they forget about the cap hell this team had in the 2000's? When Phil was stupidly kept and then dropped at such a critical moment I worried this franchise would worry and panic but gosh this is dumb on so many levels. We couldn't even try to make the contract a decent tradeable if had be.

THjr can project to be an 18+ ppg, 4 rpg, 3 apg shooting guard at 25 years old
C Lee is in his 30's and at this point, he projects to be a 10 ppg, 3 rpg, 2 apg shooting guard.
Vince Carter is in his 40's, come on now...

Courtney Lee is over 30. Tim is 25. Lee will most likely be traded for something to a contender. People are so dumb saying they won't watch the Knicks over this crap. Is it a slight overpay? Yes. But Timmy is an efficient scorer at a young age who has improved a lot since he came into the league. Looking at the people in the range of his money, he's better than a lot of them including a guy that's on the team currently. Y'all need to take a chill pill.
