Just heard on Atlanta local radio (so no link):

Kincks, Cavs, Hawks in 3-way trade talks - Thjr to Knicks, Melo to Cavs, Love to Atlanta.
I have no idea where this came from or if even true, so don't shoot the messenger.

Who even has the authority to make/discuss these deals for NYK and for the Cavs anyways?

I'd be pissed if I were a Knick fan. If they're thinking of hiring another GM, why would they allow the lameduck to hamstring their cap like this? Or is this confirmation that, despite all the rumblings, they're just going to give Mills the job?

Good question about the GM for both teams, lol.
They've just added Crawford into the mix goingto the Cavs.
That's a boatload of salary for the Cavs to take on, unless NYK is also taking back Shump

KNicks structured the contract is a less than ideal fashion to deter original team from matching.

If only someone had foreseen this a year ago...

This can't be right, but if it is, their must be picks involved.

And if it is true and the Hawks get Love, might as well build a win now team...

Put down the radio, j. I think they're just tossing stuff out. Only way I'd do that is if we get a bunch o' picks but the way that deal's structured makes it seem like we'd be giving up picks to NYK. EZPass.

^ By the way, if the Kevin Love story is true, then why include the Hawks? Why not just trade Melo for Love and have a big 3 of Love, Port, and Hardaway?

I'm guessing NYK don't want K Love...think he doesn't fit well with Porzingis.

Kristaps, THJ and the French PG would make a solid young trio. In the East, that might be good enough to get to the playoffs.

Late Thursday night, Tim Hardaway Jr. signed a four-year, $71 million offer sheet with the Knicks as a restricted free agent. The Hawks have 48 hours to decide whether to match the offer, about 11 p.m. (ET) on Saturday. Hardaway would earn about $17.75 million annually on the deal. It would make him the highest paid Hawks player next season as he would surpass the $16.9 million of Kent Bazemore.

Re. Radio rumor with Melo and Love - Hardaway signed the offer sheet, so S&T off the table. Only two outcomes - Hawks match and can't trade Hardaway for a year, or don't match and he goes to the Knicks.

Hawks can still do a sign and trade with Hardaway, the same way they did the Millsap sign and trade with Crawford.

I THINK YOU'RE BOTH RIGHT.

THJ has 'no-trade' protection but can approve the trade, if I understand correctly:

...while the list of players with explicit no-trade clauses may be dwindling, there are still several players each year who have the ability to veto trades.

A player who signs an offer sheet and has that offer matched by his previous team is given no-trade protection. Players who accept qualifying offers after their rookie deals expire can also block deals.
Here

I'd have to think there could be a loophole allowing the player and his original team to get around this.

No loopholes that I know of. Looks like Hardaway is gone. Everything I've heard says that this front office does not value him this highly.

No. Contracts couldn't be signed until yesterday, before they were just verbal agreements. Millsap verbally agreed to sign with Denver, but before things were allowed to be made official via league rules and official opening of signing period in free agency they worked out that trade.

Once the contract/offersheet is officially signed by the player there is no more S&T option.

He has no trade for a year only. Not for the length of the deal. He can accept a trade anywhere other than NYK come mid-December. He can block a trade anywhere until next off-season

I don't think you're wrong. However, if the Knicks and Hawks discover a deal that works for both sides, I have no doubts this would become a SnT.

Not if THJ already signed the offer sheet. Now they could work a side deal where Knicks trade something to Atlanta so that they don't match, but there isn't a scenario where Atlanta signs Hardaway now and instantly trades him to NYK. That side deal would have to work under current CBA regulations regarding salary cap matching and the like - THJ's contract would not be part of it. It would be a completely separate deal.

If pen hasn't been put to paper than they can still work out a S&T.

And understandably so.

This really makes you re-think his acquisition for a 1st round pick in the first place.

I still maintain that in summer 2015, combining #15 and Jeff Teague (with two years under contract) could have netted us a top 10 pick -- a young cornerstone player to build around for years.

How good would Devin Booker look next to Dennis right now? Or Myles Turner? Or Justise Winslow?
