http://hoopshabit.com/2017/07/06/2017-nba-free-agency-tracker-grades-complete-details-every-deal/2/

We’ve finally arrived: The first truly indefensible deal of 2017 NBA free agency! Leave it to the New York Knicks to be ones to step forward, after so many weeks of inactivity led their tortured fan base to believe things might actually get better.

Instead, the Knicks are trying to put forth this year’s version of the Timofey Mozgov train wreck, bidding against themselves with a four-year, $71 million offer sheet for Tim Hardaway Jr., the Atlanta Hawks’ restricted free agent.

You know, Tim Hardaway Jr. — the guy New York drafted in 2013, traded to the Hawks in 2015, and are now willing to pay nearly $18 million a season for — with a 15 percent trade kicker, no less. THJ just had his best season yet, averaging 14.5 points per game on .455/.357/.766 shooting splits, but this is a massive reach for the 25-year-old, and Knicks fans everywhere will hope Atlanta matches.

:nonono:

Glanced at the Hawks thread to see if I was being crazy not liking this deal...nah, the cats who watched him daily think it's a dumb contract too. Hardaway needs to put up post allstar break numbers all season for a start at reaching contract value. My only hope is that Horny's faster pace will play to THJ's advantage as a player, but we don't even have money for a PG any more.

This is a move that Phil just wouldn't have done. It's not an argument, just a fact.

Is it fair to compare players when one is hurt, and the other one is healthy ?
No.

Noah was hurt all season. The Bulls were sad to see him leave. The Hawks won't miss Jr.

Do you know the difference between an opinion and a fact? What you said was an opinion, not in any way shape or form a fact.

The Bulls were so sad to see him leave that their owner came out and said this:

“What we felt was it was time. We felt Joakim wasn’t going to be a frontline guy anymore. I was pretty confident that Pau (Gasol) was going to leave. So it was important for us to get the center in (Robin) Lopez.”

Are you really defending the Noah deal but bashing this one???

Like I said. Folks are trying to use this praise to PJax and they would be wrong in doing so.

Noah had been hurt for most of the previous season (and had been clearly on a decline for several seasons) BEFORE Jackson gave him that silly contract. If Noah was still remotely in his prime, signed and then got injured, sure...can't blame Jackson. But it was clear that Noah could very well be done when Jackson signed him. And the only rumored interested (Wizards) turned out to be bogus.

Whether he's matched or not, Lee should be traded.

He should of been traded since the deadline.

yea!!!!!!

I will take this

He's only 25 yrs old and provide some leadership to the young core of KP, Willy, Frank, and Dotson.

Lee is 31 and Carmelo is almost getting traded. Noah, 32, can be a leader but Knicks will trade him once he starts to play well.

So who else will be the leader? This signing, although a little pricey, is a great move for youth development.

Keep going Knicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In short, all I am saying is RJ-Brunson-Grimes-Quickley-Randle are the untouchables moving forward.

He directly quoted C Lee on one of his tweets recently

I suspect the guy is either friends with C Lee in real life or C Lee has chosen to be this guy's source on everything.

I think they mean by "bidding against themselves." The Hawks were expecting 45 million range and there wasn't much on the Timmy rumor mill front. Even if you like Timmy, the Knicks didn't have to pay him as much as they did. That's the real similarity to the Noah deal. They paid a guy a contract that there are signs wouldn't have gotten close to that offer.
