Offer should have been 4 for 60 but what are you going to do. Once you trade Lee it really mitigates the hit of the offer. Timmy is a hard worker and will continue to improve IMO. He's efficient from all areas of the floor offensively. People comparing this to Mozgov and Noah are idiotic. Timmy actually plays and has been productive. Those 2 dont.

Hopefully this leads to Melo being traded and we go full blown young guys.

In the Triangle? I doubt it. There's a reason Jackson traded him. His skills were not a fit in the Triangle. He doesn't move well without the ball, he can't create his own shot, he doesn't defend well and his shooting wasn't enough to offset everything else.

We're running the triangle? I disagree with you that he can't create his own shot. He's gotten considerably better at beating guys off the dribble and scoring in the the lane. It doesn't always look pretty, but it's effective.

My mistake. I read your original post as "would have made the Knicks watchable last year". Yeah, with Hornacek's system he should be a better fit.

I also said a few pages back. Dont blame Mills. Blame KP. KP does not want to lose and this is a move to keep the team competitive around him. It fits the young timeline. Dont forget KP was concerned about the "Direction of the Team". That means he not cool with having a trash ass team void of talent around him.

i guess that's the price for bidding for a rfa, gotta make it hurt if they match. look what otto porter is getting no way he lives up to that contract. i agree though, on the surface i don't like this deal but i can get more behind it if we make subsequent moves before the season starts (trade Lee, Melo, KOQ). that will ensure that we're still terrible.

i just don't like dude's tone in the article. this deal isn't even comparable to the mozgov signing the lakers basically had to give away a lottery pick (d.russ) to get him off the books. at least timmy is only 25 and his career trajectory is pointing up..

Yeah that's a fair take. I think the Mozgov comparison is hyperbole, but I see the "bid against themselves" comparison at least. Mozgov was clearly a worse deal (and Noah was too...just throwing it in because it looks like that's a separate discussion happening here but I've glossed over the conversation).

The Knicks need to dump Melo ASAP and unless they plan on playing Lee at SF which isn't ideal imo, he needs to go too. They need to get some extra assets in now that they can't use the cap space to that end. Those moves have to be coming up for the Knicks to do this and they could definitely change how I view this deal. Right now, it looks like the best overpay on the roster but that still makes it an overpay and surrounded by other albatross contracts; this one hurts that much more. When the tank is on firm footing and KP is the clear focus of the offense (after Melo's dealt), maybe it won't look as awful but I'm skeptical.

Timmy has to match numbers he hasn't put up for a full season yet to match his contract value and I don't trust players that "turn the corner" right in time for their new contracts (same complaint I had for Waiters at 52 million).

As an overall player and from a pure talent standpoint, yeah that's my opinion as well. The deal with Waiters is that his attitude (he's been run off of 2 teams already for being disruptive). Now not that Tim Hardaway Jr is known as a leader among men or a grade A personality but one would have to guess that he's not 100% a prick.

Does this move make more sense than the Noah deal or less? The Noah deal last year made more sense to me in that the organization thought it could be competitive. But Hardaway Jr on this deal at this time? Always seemed to me like a Nick Young kind of player with less NBA success than JR. That Rose 1 year rental looks pretty good compared to 4 years of Hardaway Jr. Why bring back a guy who didn't work out last time?

Why didn't the Knicks go hit or miss on big 1 year deals like the 76ers? These big 4 year contracts are a mess for teams if the guy isn't an all-star or your not a contender.

I'm on board with this. At least we're signing young guys with potential to improve and who have shown something. THJ defense was actually decent to good last year and he has learned how to get into the paint and finish, as well as pull up with his shot.

The price of getting young players is either first round picks or overpaying them as RFA. I'll take them anyway we can get them on this talent deprived team.

I know a lot of you want to tank, but you also have to build a base of good young players. KP, Willy, Frank, THJ is a solid core to work with. I'll give him a shot.

But isn't Melo Hardaway Jr's "mentor"? You can't take a mentor away if you want Jr to improve can you?

Just dont judge Timmy for his last year in NY. I believe he is a hard worker. Dude became bigger and more explosive. Have to note once he started he averaged 18PPG with super efficient numbers. That cant be overlooked. Look at Fournier, a similar player. He scored 17ppg on not so efficient numbers. Thats just what it is for talented Sg's.

The New york media will spin it because we upped it a bit so Atlanta wont match. However that's what you do when you're trying to steal an unrestricted free agent.

Without December Tims shooting % is probably around 47% (36% in December)

We could legit have one of the youngest starting lineups in the league next year

Frank - 19
THJ - 25
Harkless? - 24
KP - 22
Willy - 23
BaF Lakers:

Nikola Topic/Kasparas Jakucionis
VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles
Alex Sarr/Clint Capela

Bench: Malcolm Brogdon/Hansen Yang/Rocco Zikarsky/RJ Luis Jr.

Trying to think of positives and watch some highlights on the train ride to work. Hardaway is 25, he's getting better, he has 'dawg' in him. That's all I got.
