Stanley Johnson 2017-2018 Thread
with Morris gone, I still have hope for him to have a breakout year playing SF.

Now or never for him. Get on it young buck. Hopefully he heard this news, tweeted well wishes to Mook and then hightailed it to the gym.
If Toby starts at the four, Johnson can start. And even if Tobias starts at SF, he's still getting 15+ minutes at PF meaning Johnson gets 30mpg now - or at least the opportunity for it.
Reggie Jackson|Ish Smith
Avery Bradley|Luke Kennard|Langston Galloway
Stanley Johnson
Tobias Harris|Jon Leuer|Henry Ellenson
Andre Drummond|Boban Marjanovic|Eric Moreland

I feel like we really need Bradley to be a locker room leader. Morris tried a bit but I think Bradley has that playoff success and work ethic that he is a guy that could really help some of our younger guys like Johnson, and even Drummond. Also hoping Tobias steps up as more of a leader this season as well.

Mook tried, but Stan Van Gundy cuts his legs out from under him. Stan wants it to be Reggie and Dre's team still, and when Mook called and ran that player only meeting and called out Reggie's selfish play Stan went to the papers to mock it, I believe called it "bull****".

SVG didn't cut his leg from under him, you can't call out someone playing selfish when he does it himself so it is bull.

Team played much better with Ish because the ball was shared. Reggie makes it the Reggie and Dre show 9 x out of 10 down the court.
And then the next game Reggie sulked in the corner three spot all friggin game. And months later he was still moping and feeling sore about the call out. He's quite the snowflake.

The team is better because Reggie was hurt healthy Reggie is better than ish ran team which wasn't even that good on a small sample of 20 games.

Re: Stanley Johnson 2017-2018 Thread
Damn. When I saw the Morris trade I immediately thought about how it opened minutes for Kennard and Ellenson. I had forgotten about Stanley.

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I suspect it's more like...
SF- Tobias / Stanley
PF- Leuer / Ellenson
Regardless, it basically guarantees Stanley (and Henry!) has a consistent role.

I still think we could use an upgrade at PF over Leuer...unless we are banking on Ellenson being the PFOTF.

Re: Stanley Johnson 2017-2018 Thread
Whether by choice or necessity, this deal definitely means that this is Stanley's big chance.
Dear god I hope he doesn't blow it. He wasn't looking good last season.
Harris proved last season that small forward isn't exactly his ideal position either. Bradley's a clear upgrade but there's no denying this makes our rotation a little wonky.
We got anybody in the SL doing decent small forward work? If so their chances of making the roster just went up exponentially.

As long as Harris can score like he does, SJ can be a defensive specialist.

Re: Stanley Johnson 2017-2018 Thread
Johnson says all the right things in interviews, but it hasn't translated to the court.
I'm in a wait and see mode with him. I have really low expectations, but optimistic he can become at least usable on offense.
