How are you calculating the annual raises? I thought it was 5% per year

Ha! It's not really. You take the 5% raise of the first year and add it to the other years. So it's not cumulative.

Y3: Y2 + (Y2-Y1)
Y4: Y3 + (Y2-Y1)

Bird raises are 8%.

I've been right so far lately.., keeping Dion and JJ (soon Ellington as well), I called that McRob trade will happen very soon and that Miami will find a good backup center (Kelly Olynk) in a bargain which is.. 13 mill is the new 5-7 mil worth of the new cap yall... next move has to do with ofc keeping UD which is a given but more of creating a market for TJ to open future cap... Miami used their cap wisely

There is no future cap. Even without TJ you will have to trade other players to get under the cap. Consider we are going to be over the cap by more than TJ's salary this season and that our players are on long-term contracts (Whiteside/Dragic/James Johnson/Olynyk/Waiters/etc) How will you get below cap enough to sign another player? It isn't going up by 15M a year anymore.

Assuming we can convince Richardson to take the extension. Also, we need to deal with White and Hammon's early bird situation:



We will probably have to make a deal with Winslow. Let's hope we will have to pay him a lot because he has a great season.

Now let's go one step further.

Right now the salary cap is expected to rise all the way to $102M next season. Let's say we can dump TJ's contract without taking on any money. Before adding slots for required roster positions, we would have just $1,181,264 to hunt whales. Once you add the required amounts (minimum 0-year salaries), we are actually over the cap by $3M.



Next season, however, we will have a full non-taxpayer MLE of almost $9M. That's something, right?

I believe the odd man out is possible where even if we dump TJ we might have to choose in dumping Jrich if we're picking Winslow unless Andy gets creative to the point we would have to move JJ and Kelly Next off season

Olynyk is a good player and I like James Johnson as well, but this team screams treadmill for the foreseeable future.

getting hayward wouldnt have changed much

at least we got guys that want to be here and showed last year that they will work hard here.

a little concnered about starting olynik next to whiteside, olynik seems slow and if we want to run rather have a smaller guy out there, but we also need the spacing at the 4. iirc, we went 31-10 starting gruder at the 3 and babbit at the 4.

They won't dump Richardson or Winslow. Rookie extensions are bargain deals in the new NBA world and you only toss players if they have no chance to succeed. Both of these guys excelled in their first year, playing well even in the postseason.

We can go over the cap and sign them. We have their bird rights. In fact, it's only McGruder, White, and (now) Hammons that we don't control completely. We do have Early Bird rights for White and Hammons if we keep them. McGruder would be a RFA because he was signed in the mini-MLE from last season.

I think the concern of Olynyk starting is justified against small ball teams, but this Heat team is incredibly versatile. If an opponent wants to start a quick SF at PF and Olynyk can't matchup, the Heat could start JJ or Winslow at PF with Olynyk at backup C. There are options against numerous offensive schemes with this lineup.

I get ya. I think part of the reason the lineup was so inconsistent last season was due to injuries, but also another big part was Spo was still figuring out what he had on his roster. Now that he has a good idea, I think there will be less variation (unless injury occurs).

Some variation in lineups is just part of the way Spo rolls though, especially in the playoffs.
