Pacers signs Bojan Bogdanovic

Post#1 » by Bit's » Fri Jul 7, 2017 6:51 pm

Adrian Wojnarowski
@wojespn
Free agent Bojan Bogdanovic has agreed to a two-year, $21M deal with the Indiana Pacers, league source tells ESPN.

Don't know how I feel about this. Bogda is a great, great shooter, but that's it. I was hoping for a more all around player.

Good thing is like Collison's deal, is just for 2 years. If it won't workout well, it won't affect so much our cap.

I wouldn't say he is great shooter. He had like 2-3 hot games in regular season when he looks really good, but overall he chucked mostly. You need to prepare he will lose 1-2 times the ball wihich leads opponemt team to easy score in fastbreak. The icing on the cake is his defence. He will be a black hole everytime on D.

When he is hot he is real hot. His range is wide. He can go to the basket, shoot 3's and is very good at FT line over 90% as I recall.

Negatives he was non factor in PO for us and he don't like sharing the ball.

2 years over 20 mil isn't huge overpay but You get one way player who shouldn't get too much playing time.

37% is not so great, but pretty good.

Not a risky deal, ESPN reports his 2nd year is only $1.5 million guaranteed.

Nice signing. Cheap, short term, safe.

20 a year would be overpay. Isn't this half that?

10M/year is an ok deal for Bojan. It's like 6-7M/year under the old salary cap. He can fill that bench scorer role pretty well. A pretty fair deal if he maintains his level of play and doesn't decline, IMO.

I don't like it. But a positive is that his contract is easily tradeable.

No issue. He and CJ miles were the two best SF's left in the market.

Good signing. We needed another wing anyway. I like the 2 year time span, gives us flexibility.

Somehow it seems like we learned from our mistakes, i.e. Monta Ellis contract for one

Looks like we are gearing up for some cap space and flexibility in the next 2 years.

I have written several times that I think Bird erred by signing older players and expecting them to play like they had when he first started liking them, but Monta had his plusses as did Scola. You need a timeline and Granger and George had us correctly in win now mode. We've managed to get younger quickly. Only Thad and Bojan and Jefferson and Seraphin will peak before the under 25 group. Their contracts aren't long though so there's no dead money in our future.

In retrospect I'm not sure it would have made a difference but it would be interesting to consider where we might be had we more closely followed the San Antonio model. Don't think I've ever seen them make a win now move the expense of the long term. They will acquire veteran guys from time to time but rarely trade 1st round picks.

We built a nice team around PG early in his career but failed look at the day when he would be an unrestricted free agent. The resources used to acquire guys like Ellis and Scola might have been used to get younger guys that would have helped this summer.

Spurs also have done better with foreign players.

We likely dodged a bullet by getting rid of Plumlee early and getting value for him though. And the pick we traded for Scola was used on Bogdan Bogdanovic, who the Kings just had to pay $9 mil a year to get stateside.

We definitely could have used those assets in a better way than Scola, but they ended up being nothing special in the end really.

Nothing special from 27 on in the 2014 draft other than Jokic. At the time we were losing Lance and Turner. Had Solo waiting in the wings. Larry might have taken GR3. Would an extra year here have advanced his development?

I never thought of him as much in the NBA but he always seems to be a stud in international tournaments.

Can't believe we could have had Sefolosha. I might be in the minority here but I would've much rather had him. Shut down defender. Could've probably taught Gr3 a few things on the defensive end. And can shoot the three. On a great contract.

I think the hope is that Bojan grows here or pushes GR3 whereas a Thabo would have been a stable player with no potential. The age difference is directly proportional to the contract.

He's also been a bit limited since the NYPD incident it seems. Great value, but likely wouldn't have worked for us. He's not a great shooter either, which we really needed.
