Easy signing. His pure shooting is a clearly translatable NBA skill, plus has decent size, good athleticism, decent handle, and shows potential on defense and as a ball mover.

It sounds like they might use part of an exception to sign him to a Hernangomez style contract. I'd like that as it seems they're confident in his ability to contribute to the rotation. Would also add some fire to the Lee being moved assuming Hardaway isn't matched.

The room exception probably. Did we use our biannual last year or was it available this year?

If GSW gave their full exception to Young, then they won't be able to give Jordan Bell more than a 2 year deal I believe.

He showed can shoot the lights out, he moves well without the ball and he'll move the ball quickly if someone is open. But this was against summer league defense.

Another play finisher who will not be maximized till we have a true facilitator to get him the ball in rhythm. We have about 10 of these guys now

Rondo come through and get these guys in the right spots to help their development.

Wonder what the hold up is on his deal and if the Baker contract had any impact on Dotson's situation. We better not let this kid walk.

So the Knicks are going to pay their 2nd round pick more than their lottery pick?

Frank Salary looks like this

SEASON NEW YORK KNICKS
2017/18 $3,501,120
2018/19 $4,155,720
2019/20 $4,855,800
2020/21 $6,176,578
2021/22 $8,326,027

Dotson would probably something like 1.5 million (a season) over 2 or 3 year with maybe a team optoin at the end?

you can only sign 2nd round picks into space now. So we have about 1.5 million in cap space left...or we just have to give him the minimum.

If we give him more than the minimum we probably want to stretch it out to multiple years to keep more control.

Want to see Doston running on the court with Troy Williams and Christian Woods... curious to see what a Melo trade bring back.... would be happy to see a Maurice Harkless here also.

Just want long athletic defensive wings/bigs on this team.

Getting more than 2 years would be excellent.

Getting Rondo in here to coach these young guys up should be priority 1 after trading Melo. Seeing an actual floor general in a Knicks uniform would be so refreshing.

If Baker ends up being the only competition I am willing to bet Frank wins the starting role in training camp.

He doesnt have decent D is the problem. He's a mediocre defender...at best.

He's basically Anthony Morrow. Not necessarily a bad thing but he's basically a one dimensional guy with good size and decent athleticism that really doesnt do much of anything except shoot the 3 (like Morrow). He really doesn't utilize his size or solid athleticism in any other aspect of the game...not on defense...not attacking the basket...not getting to the line (like Morrow).

He's most definitely not a "2 way" player. Hes a one dimensional player...a nice one...but...again...Anthony Morrow is probably his best compare. If he played D or did anything else he'd have gone in the 1st.

They should have picked Thornwell.

I don't know kid...
After going back and looking at his scouting draft tapes and summer league games, Dotson is a real good defender and his handle while not spectacular, is solid.

He and Frank will make a tall and dynamic starting backcourt if he lights up the Knicks training camp.

Everything I've seen on this kid shows him as an above average defender. He also is a very good rebounder for his position.

AKA the willy deal, one of the best in the NBA. and if i'm daymean dotson, i'd probably take the bird in the hand. especially with timmy in town. may not be a ton of minutes to show his value on a shorter deal.

lee or not, we kind of set at the 2 at least.

(vet PG?)/frank/baker
THJ/lee?/dotson
harkless?/LFT/kuz
KP/KO/?
billy/noah/kornet

maybe frank shows he's ready to start sooner than later. i wouldn't be trying to put too much into that vet PG role. frank and baker are probably the medium-term plan.

Don't forget another slept on skill of his. He is an *excellent* rebounder at SG. Averaged almost 7 rebounds per game both seasons at University of Houston. In Summer League he was hitting the boards hard too. Even got double-digits one game.

Dude is a player and has a mature game. All his needs is an opportunity and he will earn himself some minutes.
