Orlando Magic Summer League Notes

Post#1 » by Smitty731 » Sat Jul 8, 2017 5:31 am

Hey all!

I was at Orlando Summer League again. Here are some notes from the week!

1. Marcus Georges-Hunt might have been the best player in Orlando. He was excellent all week long. Jeff Weltman was very happy with the way he played. He's also basically lived at the facility since the end of the year, working on his body and his game.

2. Jonathan Isaac was solid on defense and on the boards. His jumper was off most of the week. Both he and the team recognize the rest of the summer needs to be spent working on his body and his shot. The hip injury is of no concern.

3. Wesley Iwundu was bad. He struggled a lot and was visibly worn out at the end of the week. He will log considerable NBAGL time.

4. Patricio Garino did some things. He's got some versatility and good size for his position.

5. Stephen Zimmerman obviously struggled and was ultimately waived. Most feel he's not strong enough, nor skilled enough, to be an NBA player.

6. They loved all three PGs they had on the squad in Kalin Lucas, Derrick Walton Jr and Josh Gray. Chad Forcier believes all three deserve a shot at the NBA. Good bet at least one camps with Orlando.

7. FA going slow was somewhat by design Jeff Weltman said the team will not rush and will not be reckless in building the roster. They will take their time to do things the right way.

Thank you very much on the notes Keith! It is much appreciated. I agree about MGH, he was aggressive in every game and just looks to be a more confident player overall. His game and body remind me of Corey Maggette a bit. I hope he turns out into a gem we unearthed from the G-League for once. Isaac definitely needs to hit the weights and the gym all summer so he can handle the rigors of the NBA season. His massive upside, BBIQ and work ethic is going to make Frank give him all the minutes he can handle. He needs to be ready for it.

I was very disappointed in Iwundu. He will need to work hard and regain his confidence if he wants to make it in this league. I did want to ask you if you feel the Magic will bring in Derrick Walton Jr. for training camp?

Walton or Lucas. Walton had the lead early, but Lucas was better late. With the team signing Mack, it will only be one of them. Had they not signed Mack, both might have camped with Orlando.

Thanks for the info and quick response. I had a feeling Lucas would climb back up the ranks a bit. He finished the last two games strong.

Marcus Georges- Hunt was the best player in Orlando :o

Sounds like he might eventually become one of the best players on our team.

Georges-Hunt definitely deserves to at least come to camp and be afforded the opportunity to try and play his way into guaranteeing his contract.

They certainly have the roster spots for it.

Garino, to my non-expert eye, did not look like an NBA player. I would waive him and go another direction.

Georges-Hunt and Garino are fully non guaranteed until the season opener and then partially guaranteed until January.

Big time. Wasn't impressive at all. If he wasn't a draft pick, i wouldn't expect a camp invite.

Agreed. Looks more raw than Isaac, despite being the "polished" player. At least we had 25 and 35...

I thought Iwundu had some decent moments from watching the games, but it was only a few. But that's what can happen with 2nd round picks, there's a reason why they slip down there.

Mario posts a lot of League of Legends related things to his story on Instagram. He might be trying to go pro in E-Sports lol. He was in attendance at the LCS I believe recently.
