I wish we had a coach who let all these young/new guys play. We're not going anywhere. DO IT!

http://www.basketballinsiders.com/detroit-pistons-team-salary/

Details of Moreland's contract:

2017 - $1,739,333, $500,000 guaranteed until 9/15/17 then $750,000 guaranteed until first game of the season then $1 million guaranteed until 1/10/18

2018 - $1,826,300, non-guaranteed until 7/8/18, $750,000 guaranteed until 9/1/18 then $1 million guaranteed until first game of the season then $1,250,000 guaranteed until 1/10/19

2019 - $1,913,267, non-guaranteed until 7/?/19 (explanation ends mid-sentence)

Those are some doozies of guarantees. And just to be clear, like we assumed:

Pretty much we can dump him whenever we want if things don't work out... which is exactly how it should be for a 13th or 14th player on your roster. Keep that end of the bench flexibility open incase other options present themselves.

Yeah, if he's decent we have him locked in cheap, if not, no problem.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Not really a "doozy", I see alot of outs for the team if they decide he's no longer needed or needs to be moved for a bigger deal.

Was just about the amount of dates rather than what it means for the team. It's a lot.

Also, it seems like Moreland's third year is only non-guaranteed up until 7/8/19. If he makes it past that point his salary guarantees for the rest of the season. There's his goal.

Moreland is an intriguing prospect. 6 ft 10 with 7 ft 4 wing span. One of the knocks on him coming out of college was his weight n strength. Today his weight is a solid 240 lbs. Extremely mobile, a defensive presence, shot blocker and always around the ball. Not as raw as Dennis Rodman but in that mode as a high energy performer. Brings defensive intensity sorely lacking. My hope is SVG figures out how to best use him n doesn't bury him on the bench. SVG has been decent at acquiring players but not as good at coaching players up.
