jah is a nice kid. he fixes the easiest to solve problem (body/fitness). now he gotta work on his rebounding/awareness and d and he would be a player. i dont think he will, because things like awareness/motor are not things you can really learn. you have it or not..

All the players improved last year. Covington, Dario, TJ, Stauskus, and Holmes improved in so many ways, I'm sure Okafor is going to be better, just from experience. He could add a size element to the team. Whether with Embiid in short durations or with just Simmons, he'll be a more efficient scorer.

Fultz
Redick
Simmons
Embiid (7'2 PF)
Okafor

3 almost 7 footers. If anything, I would like to see this lineup, even if it doesn't work. The have to try it.
Embiid and Simmons on the perimeter to set screens for Redick and Fultz. Okafor to stay low for rebounds and quick finishes.
2 sharp shooters from deep. The mismatches will lead to many dunks.

Okafor needs to actually rebound the ball before he's pushing our best player out of position.

I hope its a trade every time I see this thread at the top of the forum. It never is.

Nobody is going to give you anything for him. It doesn't even matter anymore.

I don't want anything. The roster spot is worth more to me. Plus, being able to use some of his money to renegotiate and extend cov would be useful.

Yeah I'd like an extra 6 mill in cap space.

Hawks are rebuilding, lost Millsap and Howard. Might want to take on Jahlil.

Yeah I get that. But they have 16 million in cap space already. They have enough room to renegotiate Covington if they want. And if I thought they were really pressed for roster spots, it would be a bigger deal. They're not pressed for spots. Especially since they can have two 2-way players now. Okafor's presence is irrelevant now.

I'd give him to the Hawks for a 3rd round pick, if they promised not to flip him to Brooklyn or the Lakers. Don't want Okafor helping any of Boston's future picks. He's the embodiment of the forfeit.

I think Roco's ext might be in the 4/50-60 range. If we want to have the lowest possible salary in years 2, 3, and 4, I would think we would want the first your to be closer to 20 million. Maybe 20,12,11,10. Maybe I'm missing something.

Ultimately, I would find those cap advantages more valuable than a 2nd rounder that they'll ultimately sell, or keeping him him and rolling the dice on Jah being effective part of rotation.

That would be nice, but at the end of the day $4-5 million spread over 4 years (by only giving him 15-16 this year instead of 20) isn't really that big of a deal.

Interesting quote from Bob Cooney in todays INKY:

Sharing a flight with and talking to Jahlil Okafor on Saturday revealed a guy who has put in a ton of work this summer on his body. Okafor looks 20 pounds lighter but more defined and stronger than over the past two seasons.

I would like to see an "in shape" Jahlil play with this year's team before giving him away for nothing. If he is going to be traded, there is no reason to sell low.

Lol. Okafor was putting in work in the offseason last year. How is this any different? Because he cut his hair? Lol. And if he is putting in even more work this offseason then why now? That's not a good sign. It shouldn't take being demoted to the 4th string Center to get dedicated. I'm pulling for him. If he does look good then I don't wait until the trade deadline. If he looks good in the 1st 20 games I trade him right then before something happens.

Should be a really feel good story if Jah bounce back.

For one, I think he'd be a dominant player in SL. I remember how Valanciunas was like a euro version of Shaq during his last season at SL. Haha

Me too. Why not?

He is 21 years old, younger than some players drafted this year. You never know.

If he truly dropped 20 lbs though, that is a big deal. 20 lbs is the difference between being able to do a LOT of things out there versus not being able to do them.
