well damn! shots fired at Melo

Don't say that! He may not have youth, athleticism, or unselfishness, but very soon, he will have accountability.

I believe I have this right
This deal is structured the same way as the Melo contract.
Same 15% trade kicker and a player option for the last year.
The 50% front load payout makes it even more unattractive to other teams.
Basically untradeable.
Now if Hardaway does by some miracle live up to the deal he can opt out and we get nothing.
The contract allows him to be an UFA in his prime.
The cap is expected to rise by 3-5 million next year.

RFA are generally the guys you can get for less not more.

If NY can't move Melo to Houston in a three/four-team deal that can net the Knicks first round pick(s) and/or a young talent, just keep Melo until the trade deadline. (The coach will have to pull him and Hardaway at end of games so they don't mess up the tank.)

Sign Dotson to a 4-year deal like Hernangomez, or at least a 3-year deal to gain his bird rights. He is a knock down 3-pointer shooter who can spread the court and defend (3-D players are very valuable in this league). He is going to be a steal at 44.

Vet PG | F. Ntilikina | <C. Randle?>
C. Lee | R. Baker | D. Dotson
T. Hardaway | L. Thomas | <G/F?>
C. Anthony | W. Hernangomez | M. Kuzminskas
K. Porzingis | K. O'Quinn | J. Noah

O. Jaramaz goes back overseas with L. Labeyrie.

I could do something in 2K with that roster.

The smart thing would have been to rebuild and not sign a player like Hardaway that will hurt the tank, but you can NEVER expect the
Knicks to do the "smart thing."

I'm sorry I looked at this. They loved Timmy and miss him. They seem to have no hope, and as a small market team, they may be right.

Kind of makes me feel better about all our struggles.

What kind of production would you say we need for him to justify his salary?

Obviously didn't like the contract, but we cant do anything about that now. Like mentioned a million times, you hope that Hardaway still stays hungry and improves his game coming back to NY. Hopefully some of Buldenhozer remains with him, he does fit with what Jeff wants to do, Hardaway could be a good shooting guard in this league.

I can see his boisterous style rubbing off on both KP and Frank, Hardaway and KP potentially could be real nice duo running in transition.

Oh well, welcome back Timmy.

Complaining about THJr 17 million is dumb when James harden is getting 57 mil a year. I'm over it.

I'm sure that was posted.....but it pretty much echoes my thoughts, even if it is bleacher report. If he were signed at Tony Snell money, meh....okay, but there's a reason ATL declined so quickly, because he's role player who doesn't excel at anything. Shooting 35% from deep isn't that special, again...Snell is better. Not playing defense isn't that good, something Snell can do. Can he get a couple more buckets a game, sure....but at that price, it's a massive overpay no matter how you slice it. You can still be a fan while being objective. He was signed for way more than he's actually worth.

i'll never understand fans who think like this. teams trade, cut and release players all the time, and only when it's some transformational players leaving a team, they get all emotional whining about loyalty.

Conspiracy theory

Knicks realized they can't develop players

Sent Hardaway to ATL to develop

Brought him back below what a max offer would have been if he stayed and also hadn't developed

However I do feel this is a Crawford type move where we think we're getting more than what we're paying for.

Luckily we're in the East

I dont think he needs to justify his salary. I think the organization has made a poor decision in the structure of the contract giving the player the same level of power Phil gave Melo. Hardaway has all the leverage under this deal and the Knicks have zero.
