The eye test tells me so far Tatum is the more complete player then Fultz.....his shot should reach most 3pt areas and he knows how to get to the hoop. So with maybe hitting the weights and natural growth Danny's got a nice sf/pf who could be an alpha like player...

It's only Summer League and a lot can change, but I'm already starting to feel better about the trade.

NBA fans in general tend to be knee-jerky in the extreme about this.

I don't see how any of the facts on the ground have changed. Tatum is still a mid-range scoring match-up assassin who struggles to create from behind the 3-point line and lacks the weight/power to thrive in the paint. Fultz is still a ridiculous PNR dynamo who struggles on D.

These guys have both been almost exactly as advertised in SL.

Compare their per 40s in SL to college. In college Tatum was 20/9/3 with 45/34 shooting splits. In SL he's been putting up 23/12/2 on 47/22 splits.

In college Fultz was 26/6/7 on 48/41 splits. In SL he's been putting up 33/6/5 on 47/46 splits.

The main reason Fultz did and still does project as a better NBA player for most analysts is still the same - Tatum's specialties (mid-range isoing and posting up) are lower volume, lower efficiency play types in the modern NBA than Fultz specialties' - PNR scoring and playmaking.

I guess that's true. Do you ever factor position into this stuff? Like in theory you just draft the guy you think will be the best player but I feel like a potential all-star at wing is far more valuable than an PG. Obviously that doesn't matter once you get to top 5/top 10 in the league guys but I seems pretty easy to get yourself a decent point guard these days. A trade for someone like Bledsoe would probably just cost a mid first and he's a quality starter, where at the wing after the first 10 guys or so its slim pickings.

One thing that is true. Tatum is a more NBA ready player now. But not by a landslide. Issac or Fultz could easily become the best in this draft. But you're not making picks for this year you're doing it for 3-4 years from now. Tatum will get a lot of tread this year. Essentially picking up Browns minutes from last year while Brown takes Smarts minutes and Smart takes Bradleys minutes on the depth chart. So expect the usage to mirror what Brown got last year. To be fair I'm still not sold on Brown. I think he's going to be as it stands right now a good rotational player. But his ceiling is high enough to exceed that. Will be interesting to see.

Fox and DSJ

All that aside. Tatum worries me because iso not a great look for running an offense all the time. You still need guys who can iso and create when time is running down or when plays break down, but I'm worried he is going to get abused by more athletic defenders. Tatum still has a ton of potential and a lot of it is contingent on how the Cs develop him.

Fultz has the higher ceiling but he's going to have to play defense to reach it. I'm super interested to see how these guys play in actual NBA games as well...summer league is kind of worthless for evaluation.

In summer league things break down quickly, defense can be suspect, and hyper athletic guards flourish. Get ready for DSJ to obliterate summer league. It also will likely mean nothing, even though I wish we would have traded down and taken him.

Fultz will start and play heavy minutes for Philly. He will probably lead the team in scoring and ease his way to rookie of the year. But Tatum is pretty darn special too. I love Tatum so far and he seems like a genuine kid. Bright, bright future for JT

The holes in Tatum's game are very fixable with work, particularly 3-point shooting, which should be a legit strength before the end of his rookie contract.

Bet with Stillwater Celtics will finish 6th or higher in ECF Standings Regular Season(17-18). [WON]

I just hope we all don't fall for the counting stats during the regular season. Please keep in mind the team situations. Fultz will get a ton of minutes and surely put up a ton of counting stats. Tatum is in a much different situation and his #s will "suffer" as a result.

When analyzing this question throughout the year, please keep that in mind fellas.

I agree. But it's equally absurd to be changing one's opinion about Fultz vs. Tatum because of two summer league games.

Ya know, I don't think Tatum is that NBA ready.

He has advanced footwork and iso game for a kid. But is he going to be able to channel that into a role at this stage of his career?

Fultz is pretty NBA ready because the thing he does particularly well (run the P&R), he'll be asked to do from day 1. Their best players are all roll men (Embiid, Saric) and they have no shooters and no PG. Plus the NBA is just very P&R heavy.

Tatum is more of an upside play - turning those long 2s into 3s.

So far tonight, Fultz has 8 points on 3 for 12 shooting with 1 assist. Meanwhile, our guy had 27 and 11. I think we're good.

Fultz is getting carried to the back with an ankle injury.

Couldn't put any weight on it...

Philly will create an injury and hold him out for the season. They do this all the time.

Danny already looks like a genius. I feel bad for Fultz and the 76ers.

Is this anything more than a simple sprain? He has bad knees if I recall so this isn't some recurring injury.

Appears tatum has a nose for the ball and could rebound well for his position when he fills out. Another added bonus I wasnt really aware of.
