Unbiased opinion here...Simmons focuses a lot more on getting his own assists, Lonzo is just focused on the right pass whether it's a hockey assist or not.

Agree.. biggest difference is Simmons goes "assist hunting".. whereas Zo is more of an "empowering passer" with his hockey assists and passing the ball up court versus quickly dribbling it up. You don't see that type of unselfishness from pgs in either era to be honest.. Even pass first pgs from both eras prefer to have the ball in their hands to set up scoring plays. Lonzo will give it up early as he trusts his teammates and he knows good things will happen more times than not...

I agree. The difference between Lonzo and the other players pass first pg's is that Lonzo doesn't dominate the ball. If you watch Wizards games, John Wall dominates the ball. If you go back to the Celtic's teams with Rondo, he dominated the ball. Ball, on the other hand, doesn't dominate the ball. I think, this aspect of his game, will make him really appealing to play with other stars who are ball dominant.

Anyone know who and when the last summer league triple double was? I honestly couldn't find a database that showed this info. Thanks in advance.

4 of his 5 baskets were completely wide open. His defense was bad and the way he missed was awful. He's a great passer that's something you can't take away from him but I still see a lot of major concerns in his game.

prime1time wrote:I really think people are not putting into context what Lonzo's trying to accomplish. It actually takes time to learn how to be a real NBA PG. It takes time to learn to balance looking for your shot and creating for others. When you are a scorer like Tatum, you just come in and score. The game is straightforward. But when you are trying to run a team, while trying to balance creating your own shot and setting up your teammates, it's going to take time. I've seen a solid 70% to 80% of John Wall's games from his first summer league. You have to give young PG's time to develop and learn the position. Very excited to see what Lonzo will be capable of in his prime. Also, I really liked that he took Jackson in the post. It adds a wrinkle to his game that could be potentially troublesome for teams going forward.

I did like the post up from him.

Melo is a first ballot HOFer. He had the talent to lead a team to a 'chip, he was stubborn and also was handed a bad deck of cards.

I really liked what I saw from both rooks.

On Ball:
He is is going to be a great player but not in a way everyone was probably thinking he was going to be. He like ALL rookies will need around 2 years before they are truly effective in the League. I think the hype made it seem like he was going to dominant from day 1, but that's unrealistic. He's a poor shooter and hella skinny. I don't see why he can't improve those by year 3, and bring a really fun brand of basketball back to LA.

On Tatum:
The prettiest wing scorer I've seen in SL since Melo. *Insert obvious caveat that it's only SL doe*. At the very least his technique leaves you speechless with both his moves and footwork. Similar to Ball, I don't think we'll see where his trajectory is truly going to go until Year 3, but right now I think Brad Stevens is excited to develop a talent like him. He has all the moves, but with age I think he will be more efficient in converting them. He had both good and bad plays on defense, but his rebounding has been a surprise so hopefully he can get significant PT.

Looks like Russell Westbrook's triple double record is in jeopardy this coming season.

When he sucked last night, it was "only summer league." Now his performance suddenly matters again? Funny how that works.

lol MCW's NBA debut against the Heatles is still one of the more puzzling ones when looked at in the context of his career.

This game feels so slow to me, but teams are scoring a lot.

If he's rushing, it's just nerves. His natural release is quicker than the average PG and almost identical to Klay's (0.02s slower).

Getting his shot off isn't a problem. When the game slows down for him they'll start going down.
