yea, I'm actually just now reading Game of Shadows and thats basically what it is, a story. otherwise, like backer said, Bonds would have already been pinned on steroids... and about his grand jury testimony, he didn't flat-out admit to taking steroids. people take was he said and wanna twist it as that but thas not what he said. he said he used the clear and the cream not knowing what they were... and chach speaks the truth about steroids. listen to your elders.

sideshow, Thanks for helping me make my point. there is however one sentence that is a little misleading, leading toward spectulation.
" he said he used the clear and the cream not knowing what they were"
Actually Barry said that he used some things for his arthritus pain [flax seed...] that the Grand Jury decided sounded like the clear and the cream. Barry did not say he used "the clear" or "the cream".
I know this is small stuff in the big picture here and hope to someday soon move on. As the story goes, it should be straight. Some, many, are grasping at straws here to discredit Bonds. This small point made, discredits those that say he "admitted" to useing steriods.

To back up what i was saying in the previous post here is part of the SF Gate.com, SF Cronicle article 12/3/04 by Lance Wade and Mark Fasharv-Wade
To the prosecutors, the substances Bonds said he was using sounded like "the cream" and "the clear," two steroids designed to be undetectable in laboratory testing that Victor Conte, founder of BALCO, is accused of marketing to elite athletes, sometimes with Anderson as middleman.
Bonds said that as far as he knew, Anderson had given him only legal products to treat the arthritis and fatigue that afflicted him, especially when playing a day game after a night game. The trainer brought the products into the Giants' clubhouse at Pac Bell Park "once a homestand," Bonds said, and that's where he used them.
"I never asked Greg" about what the products contained, Bonds testified. "When he said it was flaxseed oil, I just said, 'Whatever.'
"It was in the ballpark ... in front of everybody. I mean, all the reporters, my teammates. I mean, they all saw it. I didn't hide it."
Well, there you have it. Does it sound like he is admitting to useing steroids? i don't think so.

I agree. The thing that makes me said about the entire steroid controversy is why it took so long to uncover the mess. Why is it coming so late in the game?

Short answer... Because the Bonds spurned media stirred the pot with their agenda to "get even", when they saw that Barry Bonds was actually going to break the HR record. The last thing the main sports media wanted was to see Bonds crowned the Home Run King. The more that they tried to pin something on Bonds, the more information came up of the many others involved. Some cards are now "face up" on the board but MLB and Bud Selig are holding the deck close to their chest.

Good point. It really is just too bad that even if Bonds does beat the record, it will forever be tainted with the steroid controversy. Sad, really. There just doesn't seem to be anything, media or selig, that can change whats going on since no one is really "confessing", just hinting towards what they have done.

The "steroid era" has little to do with Barry Bonds. The HR record has to do with Barry Bonds. The "steroid era" has to do with hundreds of pitchers, hitters, and role players, both past and present since the 1960's and 70's who were looking for an edge up on their compitition.
Hey, if anybody cares. I have watched about every game amd read about every article concerning B.Bonds for the last 15 years. Barry is no saint. Who is, but he has always been great to his fans, tried to play team winning baseball, kept his nose clean, amazing to watch, and showed up every day ready to play ball.
The guy is not the same guy the media makes him out to be. Where does the general public get their info? The media. Why would the media write bad rep? Cause Barry told them to pound salt. I saw it on tv, read about it the next day, and didn't blame Bonds one bit. What they wrote had very little to do with what he said or how he said it. After awhile, he had enough, go pound salt and leave me alone. I would have done the same thing myself. He is not the villen here folks. He's just a guy that stands up for himself that is really, really good at playing baseball.

backer55 wrote:Game of shadows is a story. Many parts including some of the more important claims, have been found untrue.
Tha Authors were hoping to recieve awards on the book from their "Work" but aparently the only catagory it would fall under was "fiction".
No wonder, as if half the things the Authors claimed were true, there would no need for all the ruckus involved in tring to put "something, anything..." on Barry Bonds.
I got into an argument the other day with a friend about Game of Shadows cause I was trying to how the book is basically a fictional story. However, when I was looking for a concrete article giving information on how some of the accounts mentioned in the book have been found to be untrue, I couldn't find it. Can you backer, or anyone give me some links to this information?
