Put it this way

The Heat's offseason:

Dion - 4 years 52 mil
Olynyk - 4 years 52 mil
James Johnson - 4 years 60 mil

You hear any negativity about these contracts?
Cause THJ is better than all of them, and all four are overpaid

The Heat actually have centerpiece player in Whiteside. Signings look different when you already have such an established good player. The Knicks dont have anyone yet. Not to mention Rileys always going to get the benefit of the doubt....especially when compared to the Knicks.

Mills: Welcome back Tim, you know what to do next(escorts THJr to a tiny coffee table).
"Yeah, you are. You right, bro" - Joe Dumars telling every PG on the roster they are starting.

Loll the Knicks don't have anyone yet?

You would rather Whiteside over KP? You would rather that Heat roster over the Knicks?

Talk about the grass being greener. Pass me whatever grass you're smokin, kid.

Whiteside justifies spending all that money lmao.

Since when is Hardaway better than Dion Waiters? And even if you could argue they were even, 16 mil more? If Hardaway signed a 4 yr 54 mil deal everybody would be having a different reaction

The number I would go by is the 60M given to James Johnson because one could argue that considering the age and the upside, people would rather have Dion over Johnson.

Next, obviously the difference between Unrestricted and Restricted FA. If we had given THjr, 60M, I'd argue that this figure is definitely matchable considering that James Johnson just got this figure. Now, push it 65M, Atlanta maybe on the fence on matching. Knicks clearly don't want this to happen thus, bringing us to 70M and still within a doable salary for players of his type.

Now, KCP getting 20M. How does someone justify that? Will the media lash out on anyone for giving him that money? Probably not? But what makes him better, is what I'm asking to justify his price over THjr.

Teams want to make money. I'm not spending top dollar to go to games and watch bums.

Many other people would. Kinda explains how we've been able to keep our status as a valuable franchise despite these past few years.

For those that like THJ but not at what he was signed for, which is understandable, please tell me what you would be willing to give THJ in a 4 year deal?

a lot of it financially based. sometimes you make decisions just to keep people in the seats.

54 mil. You might say Atlanta would match that since it's only 6 over their rumored 48. But then I'd say let them.

The absolute max I would have bee "OK" with if management really loved him and wanted to pry him away would be 60. Atlanta is in full rebuild (which we should be doing :/) and already has major money tied up in Bazemore. I feel there is no way they would have matched 60.

So again we were bidding against ourselves. Smh.

Instead of THJ for 4 years, I would rather signed KCP for 1 year and reevaluate next year or take on Demure Carroll for picks

But that's less than $3M a year more, which is about what the biannual exception is. It becomes easier to justify it ... at least in terms of their decision-making ... when you see it like that.

Slightly more than what the Hawks were willing to pay. if they match, so be it. Timmy wouldn't have been my choice for using any of the Knicks cap space though.

But you're not gonna get KCP for 1 year.

4 years / 60 million at most. Figured we overpaid by about 10m or so. Not the end of the world like the media is making it out to be but it's definitely not ideal.
