Yes, I haven't seen Duncan, Shaq or Kareem during their rookie seasons. But Blake Griffin? I would take Tatum over Griffin in the playoffs right now!

Jayson Tatum is going to be a superstar. He is already the most NBA ready rookie I have seen in a long time. He's 6'8, sneaky athletic, has 3 pt range, incredible shot making ability in isolation, he can drive, he can pull up from midrange, he has back to the basket game, he's an excellent defensive rebounder, is gonna be solid defender (rookies are never quite good), he is a willing passer and he knows his role on the team. That guy doesn't have a glaring weakness in his game and he is a rookie.

I'm so hyped right now, the Celtics are back!

He looks really good. Won't get much playing time between Hayward, Brown and Crowder.

Since OP is young, perhaps the best rookie he may have seen was Chris Paul (really underrated rookie season - - 6.1 BPM, 10.4 WS), 16/8

I believe his boxscore will look very good (he executes the moves perfectly,like a gymnast) but his impact on the game (defensively and offensively) won't be notable for me

Anyway,Duncan could have been easily drafted as a 1st pick in 96 too, at 20, and also at 19 in 95, and still be more valuable than Tatum

19 y.o Duncan at Wake Forest
19 ppg 12 trb 3 ast + defensive presence (his height/lenght was more remarkable in college )

Tatum is only a nice scorer and a average rebounder.
He doesn't bring too much to the table as a creator and defensive anchor.

the only teams who could beat OKC in the last 20 years are 2000-2001 Lakers and best Bulls teams. I don't see anyone else with a chance. to me they're gonna crush Miami in the finals.

I'm always wary of players who play like Tatum. He is one of those guys who looks good, mainly because he can hit tough shots at a solid level, but you don't get extra points for hitting fadeaway 2's over outstretched arms. Obviously, there are times when the ability to convert those shots at a decent level comes in handy but most of the time it's still not a good, efficient shot. Tatum also has the tendency to be a ball stopper at times, to go iso too quickly and that's not great for your overall offense. Add to that his limited playmaking skills and I have doubts about his impact. Although I'd assume many people will constantly be higher than him because of what I wrote above.

In Tatum's defense, he definitely has untapped potential. He could easily develop into a reliable 3pt-shooter and if he embraces the efficiency that comes with it, that'd be a boost for his impact most likely. Moreover, he has shown flashes of good defense and should also be a decent defensive rebounder. If he can become consistent in this area, he's going to be a plus defender in this league. I'd like to see him developing his off the dribble skills towards the rim against slower players. If he can develop all of the above then he's a lot more exciting as a prospect to me – and that's within the realm of possibility.

However, as of now I expect him to be more flash than substance in terms of impact. The way he gets buckets looks great but isn't as impactful at the team level as it seems to be (or used to be) the case. See DeRozan or Melo.

He has more offenisve polish than paul george at the same age. Not quite the athlete but his footwork and postup skills is quite amazing. Most ppl on rgm rate players based off their impact and overall play(offense defense) over pure offensive skill/skillset so in that regard i dont think he will be looked quite as favoribly here. Its only summerleague but his play looks really promising and celtic fans have good reason to be excited.

What about Kobe in the summer league? At 17 doing what he did? He looked so complete. I know he played limited minutes in his rookie season but everyone was shocked watching him in action in the 1996 summer league given he was so young.

Just as a reminder, Cavs rookie PG Kay Felder last year in the D-League averaged 30pts, 6ast, 3rbd, 2stl per game on 49%.

When he played in Cavs games he averaged 4pts, 1ast, 1rbd, 0stl on 39% shooting.

He has yet to crack the Cavs 15 man rotation. Point being - Its summer/d-league basketball. Dont get your hopes too high.

7 G | 15-3-4-1-1 | 48.6% TS | 19.3 PER (25.0% USG) | .156 WS/48

It is OK, but nothing to write home about.
