Re: Detroit should get in on the Melo/Anderson trade.
If Houston finds someone to take Anderson, they certainly won't be dealing Ariza, he's tight with CP3 and a perfect guy for a Warriors series.
I'm all for swapping out Leuer and one of Reggie / Boban / Ish for Anderson, that gives us legitimate spacing from Bradley and Anderson and a guy that can't be left wide open with Tobias/Stanley, but I'm skeptical the Knicks would have any more interest in our guys than Anderson, it seems they just want expirings.

Anderson is terrible and would be absolutely untradeable here.

Some people think Ish is a starting caliber PG because of 20 games were he was useless in the half court.

I'm all for getting rid of Reggie Jackson, but not in a deal that brings back Ryan Anderson. He's terrible and we don't need him.

Would you agree he's better than leuer?

Nope and he's cost twice as much.

Not on that contract.

I lean this way still. Leuer doesn't look like a guy that can handle more minutes in a starting role, but he's a fine rotation player that's more versatile than Anderson. Jon actually takes it to the rim and finishes while being a competent small-ball five when mobility is needed to match up with an opposing offense. And his defense is fine. Nothing great, but nothing awful either. His shooting really fell off a bit after moving into the starting lineup but I would rather bank on him being decent than trying to acquire Ryan's albatross contract as a guy that doesn't have much value past being a shooter. A good one, but also more of a stiff that's not helping in other areas.
The thing is to actually get Leuer's minutes back down to where they should be, staying more in the low-mid 20's than venturing into the high 20's and even 30's. Which doesn't sound too difficult, but would require a decent bump in minutes from both Johnson and Ellenson. That should happen but who knows if it will. Harris more than likely gets time at both forward spots so that helps but Leuer will probably be playing a bit more center now too unless Moreland really impresses defensively. So I'm thinking something like this:
Harris (18) / Johnson (30)
Leuer (18) / Harris (12) / Ellenson (18)
Drummond (30) / Marjanovic (12) / Leuer (6)
Big bump in minutes for Stanley and Henry, but that's probably coming for at least one of them regardless. Replacing Leuer with Anderson in that time, but putting Ellenson in at center a bit instead, doesn't really do a whole lot for me. Then there's Ariza coming in which isn't great. Besides he and Van Gundy not meshing at all (which has happened and probably a bigger deal than the Dwight/Stan thing) that screws with developing Johnson and Ellenson because he's directly taking time from both. I'm not particularly hopeful of either becoming anything special, but the team can't just keep burying them behind vets either because they never will develop on the court that way. This is a very easy no for me.
Going off on a bit of a tangent here but I really liked Markkanen in the draft, and some think that he and Anderson compare for their use on the court, but that's not how I saw Lauri and thus I don't think that comparison would come into play here. Not that anybody has brought it up, but like I said I was going off on a tangent.

I don't like this at all. We become worse with this deal.

We're getting two starters from the third or fourth best team in the NBA both who can shoot the three ball really well. Ariza is also a positive defender.

Re: Detroit should get in on the Melo/Anderson trade.
Anderson is significantly overpaid and has negative trade value. NY wants to move on from Melo and would likely trade him for next to nothing -- but Anderson is less than nothing. That's the problem.
Reggie is the only contract we have in the same negative range as Anderson, and even that is debatable, because he could be healthy and play near his 15-16 level and be a solid deal. Further, we don't have legit PG minutes without Reggie.
The only way this works is if we send out Reggie and Leuer and get back Anderson AND a legit PG... and since there isn't much money left, a legit PG for less than 8 million or so. Houston HAD that in PBev, but doesn't now. That gets us up to four teams already, which starts to border on fantasy.

Patrick Beverley isn't a Legit PG either he's a 3 and D guard.

Re: Detroit should get in on the Melo/Anderson trade.
We were above .500 last year with Ish running the show. I think Galloway is a legit backup PG so we're all set just need a minimum salary 3rd string PG if we were to make this deal.
Anderson 40% 3pt shooter
Ariza 35% 3pt shooter
Bradley 39% 3pt shooter
Galloway 39% 3 pt shooter
We could also run those 4 guys with Dre on the court and have 4 shooters who can space the floor unlike we've ever had around him at the same time.

I think Beverly would be fine with Bradley (and killer defensively), but it doesn't matter anyway. He's the Clips starter now.

Re: Detroit should get in on the Melo/Anderson trade.
I don't think they move Ariza.
We can also do it just trading Ish and Leuer. Ish goes to Houston in my imagined deal, with Houston sending Eric Gordon to NYK, along with first rounders.
Detroit trades Ish Smith and Jon Leuer
Detroit receives Ryan Anderson
NY trades Carmelo Anthony
NY Receives Eric Gordon, Jon Leuer, Houston First Rounder(s)
Houston trades Ryan Anderson, Eric Gordon, First Rounder(s)
Houston Receives Carmelo Anthony, Ish Smith.
We're basically taking on 2M extra a year as Leuer is 10M, Ish is 6M, Ryno is signed three years more at $18M/season. We take on $2M this season and next, but then Ish expires so we're taking on an extra 8M in the third year. We could probably get some money added in order to offset this. We could also include Gbinije to be waived b the acquiring team, saving us $800K of his buyout against our cap.
Ryan Anderson is a legit 3 point shooter (Leuer struggled here mightily) who's rebounding deficiencies is covered by Dre being a very good rebounder. Ryno is also a proven starter, whereas Leuer is probably a bench four.
There is a crapload of point guards still on the open market as well to replace Ish with.
Reggie Jackson|Langston Galloway
Avery Johnson|Luke Kennard
Tobias Harris|Stanley Johnson
Ryan Anderson|Henry Ellenson
Andre Drummond|Boban Marjanovic|Eric Moreland
I really don't care about the Houston/NY sides to this - as long as we're trading only Ish and Leuer (and Gbinije) and getting Ryan Anderson and money back. If Houston wants to keep Gordon, Ish could also go to NYK but Houston would have to add more value as the only players NYK would be getting is Ish and Leuer. So maybe it's Ish/Leuer and TWO First rounders from Houston for Melo rather than Leuer/Gordon and ONE First round pick.

I think I agree with this. He's probably going to be exposed a bit not playing along side a ball dominating SG. I think Gordon would have been better included to LAC, with Houston keeping Beverly who could play alongside Harden and Paul easier.
