and won nothing

So? I don't blame Bernard.

What's Melo done for us?

Unstoppable and inspirational.

That Texas trip when he dropped back to back 50 was legendary. Unstoppable and inspirational. No better words to describe him.

By the time he was traded both he and the fans had enough. Despite the love there was just too much baggage. Like when you know it's time to break up.

The fans were ridiculous, but he was no picnic either.

I don't think this forum existed. I fought for Marbury though. Back when posters like bluenorange = posters like blueseats :) Same battle different players/posters

I know, I know...but why can't he be LeBron James right?

The knicks screwed up putting talent around him, sure. The melo trade drained all of our assets to get another star, was terrible. Using the amnesty on Chauncey to get Tyson instead of waiting a year for Cp3. Both of those were mistakes.

But melo did his fair share to contribute to the losing culture and era he played in. Not adapting his game to fit the best style of the team. Not adapting to the new era of ball movement. Never giving any effort on defense. Getting coaches fired. Deliberately sabotouging a team president and trying to turn the locker room on him. Everyone had a role to play but melo could have made this whole situation a lot better. He has no one to blame but himself for the way he is going out

Name one coach he got fired. FIRED. Not quit. FIRED.

Trading a pick for Bargs? All good right?

The president threw him under the bus, not the other way around.

You want to come at his play, fair game. But you are lying about a whole lot and ignoring so much just to scapegoat the one guy who brought anything of relevance, no matter how minor, to this franchise in a decade plus.

No matter what way you spin it, Melo was never a top 10 player with us. No matter what we did, 9-10 other teams had a better starting card. There's no reason to feel bad. There's a lot more deserving players that should have won a ring as the primary option that didn't.

Say what you will, Anthony had a fabulous season three or so years ago, the year after the Indiana series - the season that he had multiple 60 points games, and attempted to single-handedly will his team to victory. That's when he won my grudging appreciation.

If not for JR going completely south for the first half of the season (after bailing on the team in the previously playoff season), that team would have also been a playoff team.

But that season also marked the end of his physical peak, and the next the beginning of his physical decline.

Players get old. It happens. Just keeping things real here...

KnicksGod wrote:I like Melo, I really do. But when LeBron said "He's done so much for that organization," around the time that everyone was piling on Phil for being honest and saying time for Melo to go, I thought to myself, "What has he done?" He was definitely productive. He's good. But that doesn't mean he's done a lot.

It's not his fault, okay, but he didn't do a lot. We lost a ton of games. One 54 win season is nothing.

He got a lot of money and a NTC and we got a ton of L's. At the same time he produced better than any recent "Face" ... going back to Ewing. He didn't suck, at all. But his teams did.

He didn't unfortunately do a lot for us. We could've lost as much or maybe less without him.

The question then becomes why?
Why did he lose so much?

This didn't happen in Denver or in his first few years hear. It went into a new realm when Phil Jackson entered the picture.
