"Everyone wasn't a fan of [Lin] being the new star," Stoudemire told the media Sunday prior to the Heat's 98-81 road win over the Knicks, via ESPN. "So he didn't stay long. But Jeremy was a great, great guy. Great teammate. He worked hard. He put the work in and we're proud of him to have his moment. A lot of times you gotta enjoy someone's success. And that wasn't the case for us during that stretch.
"You got to enjoy that. You got to let that player enjoy himself and cherish those moments. He was becoming a star and I don't think everybody was pleased with that."

That whole Lin thing is exactly why NY media sucks. He was talking about the set up of tge contract and still said he wants him back.
But no, just post that he said it's ridiculous. Without context on what he's saying.

My comprehension of that entire convo was Melo calling that poison pill ridiculous. That's why the Knicks didn't match. The tax implications from that poison pill was ridiculous and we were already in the lux tax.
He called the poison pill ridiculous. Not the contract. Houston fuqed us over."It's not up to me," Anthony said with a laugh before the U.S. Olympic team's practice. "It's up to the organization to say they want to match that ridiculous contract that's out there."
This was Melo's actual quote. Even if Melo somehow believed that the contract was ridiculous due to luxury tax implications, the comment comes off as tasteless. He's pretty much saying, it's not my choice if the Knicks want to do something stupid like matching that contract. He should've never made those comments because it doesn't bode well.
They cut out the rest of his statement.
The rest of his comment sounds like damage control to me.

The trade, D'Antoni and Lin(which is the biggest reach I have ever seen).
Except he was willing to go to Brooklyn, not because he wanted to play here. Because he wanted his max and a chance to form a big 3. He wanted out of Denver. Not because he wanted to be a Knick. That's a lie. He also was willing to leave in FA after all it took to get him here. Then he took the max and a NTC plus kicker to stay.
Never once has he left this team in a better position to build around him. He didn't attract FA. He didn't want to adapt his game. He didn't want certain coaches or players and a GM.
The FO has been a mess. He contributed to that mess with Dolan forcing the trade because he said he would go to Brooklyn.
He is a very good player. He has played the good soldier in the press. He has left it all out on the court. He has not done anything to warrant such blind devotion. He's made selfish, me first decisions that have hurt the team. These are facts. It's not all on him...but....some of it is.
It's time to move on either way and fans should be allowed to want that without hearing about it. Melo is not the victim by any stretch in this story.
The team prior to melo wasn't anything short of meh lol they were nothing but an 8th seed team they weren't some top team in the east yea we gave up assets but **** that's what you do when trading for a superstar maybe we gave up too much but those guys didn't do **** in Denver. So I guess it's really moot melo end goal was always the Knicks he deaded the trade to jersey by refusing to sign the extension there. He was coming here reguardless they didn't wanna wait they pulled the trigger. Those selfish me first decision huh? like resigning for the max ? lol god how selfish such bull **** this fanbase man look at how you treat your own
He said he would go to brooklyn. That's when Dolan lost his mind. He gutted the team so he could get a max deal. Not so he could win here. Everything was an afterthought. Then he wanted to play his way and not the team way. Then he wanted to leave. Then he wanted another max with b wet last and whistles. Not because he wanted to win. Because all he wants is his money first. Then he wants a buyout.
He gets what he gives. Sorry it didn't work. I'm not gonna deny facts and put him over the team or the fans. It's over. I can't wait for him to leave.

"I'm sure the city would love to have him back, but the team decided to go in a different direction," Smith said. "It's nothing personal, I don't think, just business. We just hope everybody can benefit from here.
"I don't really know how Mr. Dolan feels at this point with what the luxury tax is now and what it used to be, but I just hope it works out the best for both of them."
Asked if Lin's contract could cause a challenging dynamic with his teammates, Smith agreed.
"Without a doubt," he said. "I think some guys take it personal, because they've been doing it longer and haven't received any reward for it yet. I think it's a tough subject to touch on for a lot of guys."
Melo is 1 on a roster of many. Everything that went down didn't involve him.

Melo wanted him back but everyone and their mama knew that poison pill was pure bull. This board had long debates about it. It was Houston fuqing us over.

You don't comment on another man's contract unless it's all positive. Its pretty much an unwritten rule. You may be right about the context but no one has ever won by doing that.

Unfortunately, he probably had slightly more pull on the roster than the other guys.
And using JR Smith's opinion (from 2012 - before he "matured") to back up your point isn't the most convincing move.

It's the same thing when Amare implied that some weren't too happy with Lin's role on the team. Many assumed he was referring to Melo, Melo then said he doubts Amare was talking about him, and we all believed Melo. Since Amare didn't name names we're left assuming but usually where there's smoke there's fire.

Might be best to hold Melo. Let everyone sweat a bit. Knicks hold the cards. Doesn't Melo have a couple years left on his deal?
He would put a team over the top and Melo probably is desperate to bolt. Just let it simmer.

Greenie wrote:"There have been (unfounded) rumors that Carmelo, for whatever reason, didn’t like Lin, and this quote from Melo about Lin in February was certainly suspicious. So it’s easy for some people to see Melo saying Lin is being offered a “ridiculous contract” and interpret it as a shot at the unproven Lin. But that’s simply not the case here. (Especially because Carmelo added, “I’d love to see him back, but I think he has to do what’s best for him right now.”)"
But that could easily be a LIE he threw in at the end of his answer because he realized that what he just said before that would sound bad. Whereas numerous reports from writers, as well as D'Antoni and Amare interviews years later, all saying the same thing, kind of can't be lies.

It absolutely wasn't just Melo, but he's the example. He's the face of the team and a leader in the players association. Jeremy Lin getting overpaid should not have had teammates angry at him. That J.R Smith comment is unsettling because it implies zero allegiance to Lin from a lot of Knicks teammates besides the guys that were getting paid the big bucks already.

I think this article explains the dynamic and the problems that every coach/visionary has had with the Knicks. They can't coach or run a team the way they want. I'm not talking about Phil, who was lazy and didn't do his homework. I'm talking about Larry Brown, DAntoni, Walsh and maybe even, Woodson/Grunwald.

The media ran straight to players in that locker room to start some mess.
Melo flat out said Lin had to do what was best for him. The way Houston set the poison pill up was in fact ridiculous. The simple fact the NY media left out the whole qoute shows motive.
Hell, they started the narrative that JR was racist...off of a Lin interview. They are here for nonsense.
