Maybe to show how Simmons could potentially impact the Sixers in a similar fashion?

He may want to add some context then...

Defensively, the guy is 6'10..I wold think he would primarily guard the opposing PF, right?

Offensively, positions do not matter as much. He could be a primary ball handler. Given his size mixed with his ball handling ability, he could be a very difficult mismatch for traditional PFs. I think most teams for now can get away with guarding him with a SF, but that would mean their PF would be forced to venture out to the perimeter to guard cov.

Definitely excited to see what kind of player he is.

Sorry wasnt able to describe my intent.

I read a post-CP3 article about Blake. And I watched some blake clips, it reminded me of Ben simmons. Specially on transition and being a mismatch against slower PFs on the halfcourt.

Yea. I can definitely see it. Simmons moves better with the ball and is more dynamic in terms of passing/handling. Not the leaper Griffin is, but they certainly have some similarities.

Having a big forward who can grab, go & make plays is a transition D nightmare. Just like how KD or LBJ were during the finals. Imagine letting a guard chase Ben Simmons on transition then Ben collapsing the D to the open redick or lob to Embiid.

I must have been sleeping under a rock the last 14 years... because I had no idea that Lebron James was also shooting with the wrong hand. He is left handed in everything but shooting the basketball.

It probably explains why Lebron had trouble early on shooting as well.

http://www.foxsports.com/nba/story/lebron-james-left-handed-explains-why-he-became-a-right-handed-shooter-050617

LeBron hit three left-handed floaters throughout the course of the game, one his team won by 21 points to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. This is noteworthy because he is normally a right-handed shooter, despite being left-handed in all other aspects of his life.

James explained how he chose to master his craft right-handed afterward.

“I have no idea how I became a right-handed basketball player,” he said. “I think maybe it was because of Michael Jordan, Penny Hardaway, guys that I looked up to growing up. Seeing those guys shoot righty, I guess I’ll shoot righty. I’m pretty much a left-hand guy. I don’t take many of those shots, but I’m capable of making those shots. I work on my craft. I work on both hands.”

BC was really talking up Simmons' defense yesterday when he was interviewed during the game. I think Simmons is going to surprise folks about how well he plays defense. Last year I was impressed with his lateral quickness guarding wings. I don't like that he doesn't really challenge shots and doesn't really jump with a player goes up for a shot but his quickness is pretty good for his size. Colangelo said he was more impressed with his defense during camp than anything.

Yeah I remember Brett saying during camp that he was surprised at how much better Ben was at defense in camp than what he saw at LSU.

If he can just be average defensively out of the gate that would do wonders.

If Simmons develops just a mid-ranged jumper he at his peak will be a top 5 player in the NBA. One year off a lot of people forget how good he is. I think he'll probably be a career below avg 3 point shooter, but I can see him developing a consistent mid-ranged jumper. His form is good enough and he showed potential for touch.

Simmons is as tall as Chris Bosh with the same standing reach, and is much quicker. So imagine Chris Bosh with the quickness of a wing. Needless to say I am not surprised his defense impressed them.

Even in college he ranked 32nd in the nation is steal rate and that was the highest of any player 6'5"+. He seemed to already have really quick hands, especially for a big.

His BB IQ helps there as well. He sees plays develop before anyone else including the opposition. Quite a few of those steals at LSU were anticipating passes before they happened.

Also he has quick lateral movement and instincts... in this play he has good hands when trying to steal but when switched out onto a guard he also has the lateral movement to stick with a smaller guard and block their s#@t. We may not want him guarding PG's full time but he definitely has the ability to guard them on switches.

It really is like just about everyone has forgotten how good Simmons really is over the past 12 months. I really can not wait until the season starts. I'll have my home opener tickets.

Absolutely, everybody is super excited about the passing abilities of Lonzo Ball (rightfully so), but this tweet really opened my eyes about the difficulty of their passes. Lonzo's AST/TOV >> Simmons' AST/TOV, but Lonzo's passes are primarily in transition, Simmons has the ability to create for others in halfcourt as well.

so when simmons handles the rock, sixers run the motion offense and when fultz handles the ball we give the other team a healthy dose of PnR?

I saw a Lakers fan making a point that Lonzo throws amazing passes around the court to get the ball flowing where Simmons throws passes to get assists. He was trying to insinuate that it was a slight on Simmons and that he was an assist stat hunter... not realising that it actually shows the exact opposite and one of the weaknesses with Lonzo and the difference between him and Ben.

Lonzo can't score at will and get his own shot... he looks to pass first and his ceiling is Ricky Rubio because of that.
Simmons can score at will and his mindset is "Can I get someone an easy bucket"... if not "Can I score" and if he draws multiple defenders "Can I dish it off to give it to someone wide open". That's why his ceiling is so much higher.

yup, simmons is 50/50. hes either gonna score or get an assist. lonzo is 80/20. most of the time he's passing out of necessity, since he can't score.
