If Wall's words don't resonate with Ted and motivate him to 'promote' Ernie, nothing will.

Wall shouldn't sign anything less than a five year deal. But I think he'll do it. You don't turn down that kind of money. One year from right now, we're gonna hear "John Wall signs extension with Wizards".

I don't think he can sign a five-year extension right now because he still has 2 years left on his current deal.

Re: John Wall Appreciation Thread - Part III
The thing Wall doesn't want to happen again is to sign what seems like a good deal and then for the cap to magically explode later like it did before. I'm sure he was very sour about that. I think in his mind--and he might be correct--there's a lot more money to be made if you can take a contract year to year or at least have a player option in there early to re-up under the new market conditions. That isn't to say he's going to go to the LeBron extreme and sign 1 year contracts every year, but I think he's very cautious about long term deals in general, because you lose any leverage in regards to influencing decisions with the team you sign with, and because you could actually be losing money on the deal in hindsight after its all said and done.

I think the odds of the cap exploding again are slim to none. ESPN's sports empire is collapsing as more and more cable subscribers cut the cord. If anything, I expect salary cap projections to continue to come in below expectations (as they did this year).
Indeed, this should be a significant concern in David Falk's mind as he's negotiating for Otto Porter. It will be a bad move for Porter to take 3-year or a 4-year deal with another team rather than the 5-year deal with us. I expect the cap to be roughly at the same level 4 years from now (if not down a bit) and cap room will be scarce once all of those pre-2015 contracts come off the books and are replaced by post-2015 contracts. Porter could face a very tight market when his next contract is up. Better lock in a longer deal now.

If anything the cap will shrink. ESPN has lost around 16 million viewers in 5 years. But that number is very misleading, as they have fully embraced new Nielsen metrics which do a horrible job at tracking online viewership of streams.
Nielsen is selling shoddy data at this point merely to stay in business. They have no reliable ability to track streaming video. To make it more ridiculous, their own streaming app requires an active cable subscription. Any "growth" shown in streaming is dishonest.
Last night millions of people were checking out Wojnarowski's new wojespn twitter account tens of millions of times for NBA trades/signings. But on Twitter's platform, with no ads, no revenue....

So John not going to sign??? And what if he doesn't make an all NBA team next year or doesn't win MVP? Is he still eligible for super max?

Wall does have a tough decision to make. Surely he can see how incompetent Grunfeld is and i am sure he would like to play for a quality organization. On the other hand he seems to like it here and he could potentially lose a lot of money if he doesn't resign.
Thank God we didn't draft the Fat Matador.

Re: John Wall Appreciation Thread - Part III
It seems to me that the point working in the Wizards favor for retaining Wall is that, with the shrinking cap, there's unlikely to be teams that are both really good and have a max slot available. You'd pretty much need a team to be good based largely on guys on rookie contracts, so maybe a team like Philly, but overall it seems unlikely.
Boston managed to do it with a total perfect storm situation the last two summers, but it would be very difficult to replicate that in the next few years if the cap stays right around $100 million.

Wish he could tell Ted to get a new GM.

Why can't he? Doesn't mean Ted does it, but what is there to stop him?

Re: John Wall Appreciation Thread - Part III
Posting this here as well as in the SL thread.
JWall was interviewed during the SL game and they asked him what he was working on this summer. He named three things.
1. A spot up 3 pt shot. He referenced Jason Kidd as someone who developed this shot as his career advanced.
2. A floater. John feels that shooting a floater will cut down on the punishment he currently takes when he attacks the basket.
3. A post up move. John wants to use his size to take advantage of smaller PGs.

He referenced the post in general. He said he can back smaller guys down, but also mentioned passing out of the post which is a really high percentage pass.

What he really needs to learn is to keep his pivot foot down and put up shot fakes when he is near the rim. Tony Parker was a master at this. Too often Wall is out of control when he drives.

"Not yet," Wall said of making a decision on what to do entering his eighth season. "Everybody knows where I want to be. ...We've been in the same position over and over. We finally found a way to get over that hump with us as individuals, as players, coaching staff, GM, everybody we got to make ourselves better. We got to improve. Everybody has to improve every year. I got to improve and be in better shape and condition to be able to close out games so I won't be fatigued."

Re: John Wall Appreciation Thread - Part III
1. Called Otto a role player not a star(like Paul George)
2. Recruits Jamal Crawford
3. Says we're set at power forward
4. Called for the team to draft Anthony Bennett.
5. Tweeted "lol" at the 1st team all defensive selections for some reason.
I'm really starting to question Walls basketball knowledge lol. Been a strange offseason.
